They rocognized their weakness and took steps to change it, this also allows for future programs to be easily ported from one system to the other, so in the near future we will probably see versions of said programs running on macs, but NOT YET.

To me it seems pointless to buy a computer based on what shape the box is but more so on how powerful/useful the machine is. Windows can do everything, so if you are running a windows machine you dont need to have a dual boot system, but if you are insistant to run the latest OSX ( plus Which ever animal they are calling it now) you can install it on any PC, oh the wonders of hardware standardization.

I think I said that... I know what you're talking about, but that's not really what I was getting at...

You're an engineer, of course the shape of the box doesn't matter to you. =P I'm talking about marketing. Marketing drives your decisions and your design. Maybe I shouldn't have said that the hardware is irrelevant because now they can say that their computers are fast and compatible with all kinds of software. But that's not what's making their computer's sell. It's true what you said about all that dual boot, software portability stuff but the average joe wouldn't know what you were talking about. All anyone wants nowadays is a computer that is deemed pretty good, can play iTunes and has cool features.

You should know that anybody that develops knows that this is never the case (Try installing Vista). It's not the hardware that makes software portable, it's the software itself. (Java) Microsoft did not make their software hardware portable.

Sorry for the misquote, phals. I didn't mean to. Just glazed over that part of the word.

I'm willing to bet you have 2X 512 Meg DDR2 Ram sticks for dual-channel. Since your mac-mini only has 2 ram slots, you'll need to buy two new 1024MB sticks and get rid of the 512's. Kinda pricey but worth the upgrade if you want to squeeze more performance. =)

my bad, clicked on the wrong link!

Roddimus Prime February-11th-2007 12:38 PM

yeah, i found the right ram....best price I've found was $109/per for 1Gb sticks. I'm just going to buy one right now and have a 1Gb + 256Mb stick and see how it does. I just bought a 500Gb external harddrive from newegg so I can start ripping my own dvd movies.

Next on my agenda is a 30Gb sony HDD camcorder.

Jackelope February-12th-2007 02:01 PM

nice.. next on my agenda is bullet cam

Olestra February-14th-2007 12:18 PM

Rod, I wouldn't do that, you want to take advantage of Dual channel.
