AE86 Q's
What kinda specs does an AE86 - Corolla have?
How would it stand up to an auto 2.0l? |
Stock? Maybe if it was an auto. I think a stick could beat your auto. Then again I doubt you'd be racing a stock AE86. TRD still makes perforance parts for that car, and engine swaps are a plenty for that RWD platform. With drifting blowing up over here everyone wants a AE86 and they are ALL modded.
The car is worth $1,800 ( http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.urr?kbb.FL;658306;FL095&32817;cpe&40;Toyota;1986%20Corolla&1 8;TO;A7& ) but people are willing to pay 3 times that easy. It's a perfect drift car; RWD, light, balanced, and who cares if you destroy it? It's a '86 |
Also, I've got drifting videos that have Corollas beating everything from EVOs to GT-Rs. That car is insane, it's just too light!!
The weird part is if I told you I wanted a '86 Corolla 4 years ago you would have laughed at me. |

hahaha-
The GT-S will eat a stock Pro ALL DAY LONG! And this I know, from first-hand experience. Mine's still mostly stock, but I have been thinking of an SC since the A/C compressor died... But you have to be careful - the light back-end (and mine's the heavier liftback version) can and will get away from you on wet roads. Ever do a 360 going downhill in the rain during rush-hour traffic? hehehehe.... |
I started wanting one 2 years ago (right before drifting got big) but counldn't really find one. I didn't look too hard figuring I could always get one, right?
WRONG. Damn Inital D, it ruined everything!!! |
eh... the mod's right. I shouldn't have posted here. My friend plans to get one soon for 1500$ canadian. He says the car is stock, and has a 130hp, but I always thought stock AE86's had 115 or 124 horses. He wants to race as soon as he gets the car, so I'm just wondering... And yea, 4 years ago I'd be laughing balls at you... But after watching Initial D, I have a new found respect for them beasts lol. Well, as soon as we race I'll let you guys know. I'd be mad embarassed tho to have my ass handed to me by an almost 18 year old car... Why do I have to drive an auto?! I hate my damn, don't know how to drive stick, parents.

an 86 isnt a race car. I suppose it can be done and has been done but that is a drift car. The car is loose as shit in the rear. If you get a closed Diff you will be a dorifto champ. my buddies in philly and jersey have a sick drift crew and a few have 86s. Inital D is true, an 86 and slide with a turbo FC no problem. what it lacks in HP is made up for in handling. there arre many parts available for that car, although OEM might be a problem. At any rate, i would fuck 243 bus loads of fat girls to get an 86 and slide it. check out www.dgtrials.com for 86 info. slide or die.

It has been a race car for a very long time during the early 90's in Asia until Honda bought out the more sportier version of Civics later. |

I used to do shit like that in my Miata in the snow.
Drifting in the snow is fun fun fun. Plus, any RWD car will do.......or a FWD with a handbrake (less fun though). Always wanted to try my hand at that stuff on the dry pavement, but I think the Miata, while light as hell, was just too grippy and needed a HP boost to get the ass swinging (I had a '93 1.6L - whatever measly HP number that was - 116, maybe?) I also never had the balls to REALLY drift it - I'd manage a nice tail-swing-out every now and then, but no serious full-turn drifts, unless it was on snow. ~HH |
