accident!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure where this goes, but I need to vent.

I picked my 02 ES up on Saturday, and I decided to let my girlfiend take it to work today. After her lunch, she was turning back into work when some jackass (30 years old) on a motorized bike thing (mopad you pedal to start) slammed into the driver side of the car. Not much damage, broke the mirror off, and scratched the stonegard off the bottom of the door to the bare metal (about 5 inches). After exchanging info, my girlfriend tried to call the police and he fled the scene. My girlfriend called me crying because she didn't know what to do, so I went down and called the cops. When the cop got there, he told me that he should have not been on the sidewalk like he was, he shouldn't have left the scene, and chances are he may not have insurance. My insurance told me that because the damage might not equal my $500 deductible they won't file a claim unless he has insurance. If he doesn't have insurance, it's up to me to get the money from him. If he doesn't pay, I can take him to small claims court, but he may not pay that either. This man might get the asskicking of his life if he doesn't pay for something. I'm a firm believer that if you do something, and get caught, you take responsiblity for your actions!!!

wow that sucks. Too bad the rider didn't get hurt!
I'll bet your gf feels badly about this, though it doesn't seem to be anything she could have prevented... Surprise her and go out for a nice dinner. Remember, it's just a car - there are more important things out there.

Yeah, I know. I tried explaining that to her. Easier said than done. Everytime she brings it up, she starts crying. She is taking the car in for an estimate right now. I'm afraid when they give her a number, no matter how much, she'll cry again. I'm thinking tonight we will go out for dinner.

Wow. The estimate to repair the car is $1500. Looks like it's the insurance company's problem now.

Farsyde July-25th-2002 09:05 PM

omg 1500???? ouch. I don't know how motorcycle liscenses go but leaving the scene of an accident is 12 pointsa against your liscence which is enough for suspension. Go after this guy-if he doesnt have insurance than see if your insurance company will take him to court on your behalf. Good luck though. Take her to the melting pot, reeeeeeealy good but expensive. Let us know what happens

That sucks! I remember taking my fiance's Subaru RS to work one day (1st time I was driving it) and some prick rear-ended me. How much bad luck can you get? But hey - it happens. Nothing you can do now. At least nobody was hurt.

Unbelievable!!!! I got the car back last Thursday (1st), took it today to finally have the goodies installed at the dealership. The guy working on the car scratched the shit out of the front drivers fender! Holy Shit! Now the car goes back in this Thursday! Maybe this should be a sign I should not have got this car. It's Cursed!!!!

SedanMan August-5th-2002 04:08 PM

What goodies are you talking about?

Too bad about the scratch... when sh*t happens it doesnt stop.

JDMstuff August-5th-2002 11:54 PM

Sorry to hear that, but if the guy was on a moped, and he's about 30, he probably wouldn't have any money to pay you anyway. Be careful with dealership body shops, they tend to suck, especially if they're repairing damage from their own lot. They had to paint my rear quarter 3 times before I got fed up and took it to my own body shop to get it done right.
