Operation Centipede
Watch out, CT drivers! The staties are invading our highways. They will soon be invading the Wilbur Cross Pkwy, and will move along to 84, 91, 691, Rts 2, 8, and 9, I believe! Read on:
[quoted from www.wfsb.com] Operation Centipede Begins Wednesday (Hartford-AP) -- There's Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Swift Freedom, but Operation Centipede? That's the name for a new strategy by state police designed to keep Connecticut drivers safe. A team of up to 20 state troopers will begin Operation Centipede on Wednesday. The effort earned its name because troopers will be parked about every mile along a 20-mile portion of the Wilbur Cross Parkway, forming a giant centipede. The line-up is intended to discourage speeding, unsafe lane changes, tailgating, overly aggressive driving and other traffic infractions. State police say drivers tend to behave when they see a trooper's car, but quickly return to speeding when the car is out of sight. State police say Operation Centipede will make sure a trooper's vehicle is almost always in sight, keeping drivers on their best behavior. Operation Centipede will be enforced on varying days and at different times, but will be used on all limited-access highways in central Connecticut. |
