Kent, Connecticut Protege Picnic Meet, Saturday Sept. 7, 2002 (Details)

The Details For The Kent, Connecticut Meet have finally been made up.. please read the web page posted below in this message and then reply back with your name, what kind of car you've got, what you're bringing to this picnic, and where you're coming from..

I have all the offical details of the Southern New England Protege meet in Kent, Connecticut happening on Saturday, September 7th, 2002.

These details are posted at:

http://www.protegenetwork.org/chapters/SNE/

After reading and printing out the details for yourself, and mapping your way to the location, please reply to this thread with as much contact info you're willing to list as possible, and what you're bringing!

Please reply in the following way to this post, also list contact info for the web site or attendance list - cell phone not necessary but a good idea if you get lost:

1) David Brook, 2000 DX, Danbury, CT will be bringing garbage bags, plates, silverware (plastic), napkins, cups, soda.. cellphone 203-470-2203

We still need Ice (edible enough to put in soda) and a little more to drink (I'm bringing probably 3-4 soda bottles)

David August-20th-2002 07:44 AM

I'll be there too. I think I'll be by my self. Is there some were to cook? I know most of the State park have a place to cook but some don't. if there is a spot I'll bring hot dogs.

tradr August-20th-2002 03:26 PM

There is one of those barbeque things which you have to start up yourself utilizing charcoal and a lighter and etc. to keep the fire going, I won't be bringing any of the stuff to start the barbeque since I have no experience with it and don't have any of that stuff, if you want to bring hot dogs go right ahead, but you'll need the charcoal and a lighter and whatever else is needed for successful barbequing.. also foil to protect the food from the somewhat rusty barbeque there.. it doesn't seem to be actively used. :D

turbo1g August-22nd-2002 11:54 PM

like 99 % i will get there.

BoostedPro August-23rd-2002 12:10 AM

Cool, anyone who thinks they're coming please let us know what you're bringing food wise if you can bring something major or special with you, otherwise there will be NOTHING to eat..

Everyone who thinks they're coming PLEASE respond to this post so i can put you accordingly on the attendance list on the site.

Lets try to have at least 8-10 cars (and more people!)

itzkcatz August-25th-2002 08:11 PM

count me in im sure we can find out how to start a fire maybe me and my friends will go get some food and cook it there im looking forward to seeing ur turbo protege . and also this other 1st gen protege :-) where do u all live?

BoostedPro August-26th-2002 12:31 AM

2) Adam Lewandowski, 1991 LX, South Plainfield, NJ will be bringing cookies and chips.

tradr August-26th-2002 01:52 AM

Anyone attending this meet (with a car, it doesn't matter who you bring really too much) - please reply to this thread as 4drmiata and myself have done above by putting a number higher than the number of any thread on top of you, followed by your full name, what kind of car you drive, what kind of food you are bringing (we are depending on you!), where you're coming from, and any contact info you'd like to give us.

I will put this info on the protegenetwork web page, trust me, more people show up when more people are confirmed, everybody lets do this! :D

We need ice (for drinks) badly, macaroni and potato salads, a little more soda, and desserts, etc.. bring enough for 10-15 people who might show up, get something you wouldnt mind bringing home and eating yourself if some people don't show up!

As far as grilling/barbequing.. again the problem is that I have no idea how to start up one of the metal platforms at this state park which can be used for grilling, so your expertise would be needed for this, and the supplies would be necessary for you to bring also, charcoal, lighting fluid (?), a lighting device, foil, etc.. There aren't any/many stores around the meet so this all has to be planned out and brought in advance!! Otherwise just bring cold foods and non-perishables that you think others might enjoy.

There will be lots of opportunities for photos to be taken.. I will be there with my digital camera which has a 128mb memory card and lotsa batteries.

... Lets see some more replies! I know more of you are coming! If you haven't responded with the official method please do so now.. also it's highly recommended you PRINT OUT the web page this message is linked to for all the details.

Kent Falls meet on Sept. 7

I plan to attend. I've been to Kent Falls State Park several times in the past, most recently three years ago when my wife, son and I were coming down US 7 from Vermont. It's a real nice place. I live in northern NJ and it's mostly interstate driving almost all the way so it shouldn't take me too long to get there. I'll probably bring my wife and son along, too.
I propose bringing pasta salad and ham, cheese, bread and rolls for do it yourself sandwiches, if that's okay with the organizers.
I'm looking forward to seeing your cars and any mods you've done. Any information I can obtain will be greatly appreciated as this is my first Mazda.

2002 DX Millenium Red
MP3 Strut Tower Bar Kit
AEM Short Ram on order

tradr August-27th-2002 12:05 AM

goldstar, sounds good.. you're added to the meet page list. There are at least 8-10 people coming however you all need to reply to this thread with your info to encourage others to do the same!

pasta salad + do it yourself sandwich stuff sounds great.

Hope to see you there! :D

itzkcatz August-27th-2002 02:13 PM

are there 10 confirmed people going to this?

turbo1g August-27th-2002 02:52 PM

add me to the list my name is Marcin ,1992 protege aim is d2maz

tradr August-27th-2002 10:17 PM

Not 10 confirmed people but it'll be up around there probably (I'm waiting for people who check the board infrequently to finally contact me)..

I just got my Wings West stuff today, side skirts and rear bumper skirt.. prepainted.. VERY nice.. hopefully I'll have that on tomorrow or the next day in time for the meet :D

turbo1g i'll add you to the list shortly.....

cool

Bruce95fmla August-28th-2002 01:23 AM

I will be there , so you guys can look out for me , I managed to get that day off .... so I will be sure to see you there
Bruce

tradr August-28th-2002 02:10 PM

Cool, Bruce! :D

This means we have a little bit of JDM coming to this meet ;)

Hey, do you know if that guy Brenden I think his name is, from NYC.. is he maybe able to come too? It's like under 100 miles for you guys its not too big of a trip I think.

Bruce, give me a call a couple days before the meet if you need some directions you should have my number still.

mixmaster_matt August-29th-2002 03:12 PM

hey, it is a 99% chance I am going. My work gave me off but sometimes I get dicked into working b/c I am the assistant manager and if we need people working I gotta go in. But put me down for bringing potato salad, mac. salad, and coleslaw. How many people are going so far so I know how much to bring

tradr August-29th-2002 06:34 PM

There's a couple people in CT I've been trying to contact on this board who haven't been replying to me yet.. and a couple people locally I'm gonna try to contact (yellow p5 with white rims i see around town, red pro with altezzas, beige pro with altezzas, uh.. damn alot of them - hopefully I find them in my cruising and can mention this meet to them).. I think realisticly we're looking at only about 13-15 *people*, not cars, total.

Somebody else is also bringing pasta salad (a little diff. but kinda the same as mac. salad), so you can bring a smallish macaroni salad, and a bigger potato salad, and coleslaw.. sounds good :D

I have a feeling we will have too much food but it's safer to plan that way, so it's all good. You don't have to go crazy, if everyone brings a reasonable amount we'll be fine.

Those of you who haven't finalized what you're bringing please reply here and let us know what you can bring! - read the current list first though :)

Zetec August-30th-2002 04:05 PM

Hey... I just got ur PM !!!!

It is friday, almost 5pm..

I am still trying to find out where the meeting will be....

Depending on the location i'll be there with my girl...

And I would bring some meat... don't worry...

(let me read some more and try to find out where the meeting is going to be....)

TTYL

Zetec August-30th-2002 04:18 PM

Ok.. I'l be honest: I have NEVER heard about KENT !!! That's why I said before I didn't know where the meeting was...

I checked the webpage with the info and everything is clear now...

It's like almost 2 hour driving... If the weather is ok and nothing comes up I"LL BE THERE !!!!

My email for contact:

bborges79@hotmail.com

tradr August-30th-2002 06:18 PM

As far as bringing meat.. again, the problem is that nobody as of yet is bringing charcoal, lighting fluid, and some foil to cook on.. (and whatever else is needed)

If you can bring charcoal and all the things needed to start up the grille that'll be great, otherwise it's easier to bring like cold things or deli like things.. also you'd need to bring barbeque utensils for flipping and such.

I'll add you to the list shortly..

I should have better directions on the web site a couple days before the meet.. Once I have my Protege back I'll make a trip up there to make better notes on how to get there.

turbo1g August-30th-2002 07:39 PM

i will bing al the things to make BBQ.I cant bing meat its too far drive and i dont have cooler.Im going to canada today and coming back tuesday so i wont post here for couple days.

tradr August-31st-2002 12:51 PM

Ok, sounds good turbo1g..

Zetec, you can bring some meat (burgers?) and a cooler.

I'll bring a couple packs of hot dogs too since it's not a big deal for me to get those.

mixmaster_matt August-31st-2002 06:47 PM

Hey, I am gonna have to leave the meet at 1 b/c as I predicted I now have to work at 3 that day, so that gives me 2 hours to get home, plenty of time. See you soon.

David September-3rd-2002 08:06 AM

Sorry I will not be able to make it. Have to work 1-8.

Zetec September-3rd-2002 08:22 AM

I have a small cooler... how big are u talking about ?? mine is kind of small... I think it holds 8-10 soda cans...

And yes.. I can bring some meat....

Also, I have some cowboy charcoal that I need to use before winter... I could bring that too...

I'll have a definite answer about the meeting wed-thursday...

Ciao

tradr September-3rd-2002 11:50 PM

David, sorry to hear you can't make it to this meet. :(

Next time we'll have better planning I'm sure as there's alot more people in CT (but they're just very hard to contact when they're on/off the board).

Again, the meet is THIS Saturday!

Since my web page may be confusing direction wise (and I will probably update it Friday night, so stay tuned)..

Kent Falls is in Kent, CT directly off of Route 7.

I wish there was an address to point you there, however there is none. You are best off taking whatever route is necessary (as suggested through mapquest) to go to Route 7 in Kent, CT, and then asking the locals once you are in town. (and hopefully they won't lie to you!)

Bruce95fmla September-4th-2002 12:59 AM

Well I just got back from Miami Beach and had a blast. I saw a few 3rd gen pro's , some p5's (not hooked up) .. and a few 2nd gens (not hooked up) .....

My homeboy Brendon is down in Florida again , so he would not be able to make it . I know one thing , I see why he has 18's down there , my girl in Florida (different from the one coming to the bbq, so no remarks please) has a 2000 beetle and she is about to put some 18" chromies on it ,, tell me why I love her ? ...

Ok so , me and my girl will be coming to the meet this saturday , I just need to get some directions and get that stuff figured out . I am figureing that it will be bout a 2 hour drive , ... not to bad though ,,,
also does anyone have any idea what I should bring , do we need soda's , chips , or anything like that , as I really have no idea of what to bring up there,.. I can't bring meat cause it would spoil by time getting up there ....

Hey Dave pm me your number again , cause I changed cell phones and have a new number (sprint) ok ,....

ok , let me check out these directions
Bruce

Bruce95fmla September-4th-2002 01:11 AM

ok , I managed to get directions for the spot , and it should be a easy drive, about 1h and 45min... so figure I will try to show up at about 10:30 or so ...

later
Bruce

tradr September-5th-2002 02:23 AM

you've got a message, bruce :D

itzkcatz September-5th-2002 07:17 PM

I will bring Soda and maybe a digi cam . kinda far drive and i dont own a cooler so i will bring soda and something else havent thought of it yet :-) ...Jon

tradr September-6th-2002 12:12 AM

Jon, you don't have to bring any big amount of soda.. bring like.. uh.. just one 2 liter bottle of some different soda or something.. I don't know so many like root beer or whatever comes to your mind.. I'm bringing a total of 20 12oz cans of pepsi and nestea i think ice tea (bought it today).. and bruce is bringing some soda too.. if you can bring something like .. hmm.. (trying to think) a big bag of pretzels too that'd be cool.. it won't set you back much money for those two :D

See you there, and post here by tomorrow night if you have any questions (this goes for anyone looking!)

If I really feel up to it, I might take some pics helpful in finding the place tomorrow, but its like a 45 minute drive each way to go there just for that.. oh well :(

tradr September-6th-2002 12:26 AM

This may seem rediculous, but everyone attending this meet please do the following to ensure you actually get to the meet without any problems!

Everyone attending this meet please use Mapquest in the following way so that you can accurately get to the meet!

Go to http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp

1) enter your starting address

2) in "step 2", "end", pull down the -Places of interest- submenu.. scroll down to "Parks" and select it.

3) for "end" city type in Kent, and for state CT, then press "get directions"

4) on the next screen that comes up, under "Select from parks in Kent, CT" click on the letter K, select Kent Falls State Park and press "get directions" again.

This method seems to be a completely accurate way of printing out a map to get there.. so use it! You also get to choose from 3 different ways of going there, this way, but I'd suggest sticking to major routes aka "fastest route".

tradr September-7th-2002 01:09 AM

Ok, the meet is 8 hours away! Damn, I have to sleep! :o

If any of you need help getting there and trust me for that info, give me a call on my cell phone at 203-470-2203

It works from the park, I tested it there today.

I won't be checking this board until after the meet.

Cool, see you all there!

itzkcatz September-8th-2002 09:02 PM

Well i must say the meet was fun . nice to meet some more protege owners.. when u guys have spare time can u post some pics of the cars and such thanx... and also 4 door miata do u still wanna sell ur 91 tails if so please name a price thanx ...Jon 93 lx

tradr September-9th-2002 12:47 AM

The meet was definitely a success.. all confirmed people showed up for a total of 8 Proteges and I think 13 people altogether.. mostly 1st gens

I will have some pictures up in a couple days, I don't have the biggest collection of shots but have a decent lineup shot and some close ups of individual front ends/engine bays.
