Mazdaspeed 5 ??!?!?11/!?//1!

Hey-

I am looking to get a mazda 5, but i was wondering how much of the parts etc from a mazdaspeed 3 would fit? I was wondering if anyone has seen this or even discussed it. sorry to start out with such a newbie post.

i like the 5 alot, but i know it can be alot better. i also saw a mazdaspeed 3 that was totalled and it made me start thinking........ what do you guys think?

The CX-7 uses the MS3/MS6 turbo engine. I don't think Mazda is in a hurry to make another turbo van/suv.

i guess mazda wouldn't do it, but i want to! it should be pretty easy to swap from a speed3 right? besides, the 5 isn't really as much a van as it is a wagon-type vehicle in my mind, especially b/c its smaller and is based on the 3 platform.

but i was definately referring to modifying a 5 as opposed to buying one like that from mazda.

in europe the focus s-max (same platform as the mazda5) gets a 220hp 5-cylinder from volvo. drill some extra holes and do some shoe-horning and you've got an instant upgrade hehe

the MS3 has a top-mounted intercoolor, and the 3's hood had to be redesigned. so you will need to seriously modify the 5's hood. as far as the motor mounts and such, i don't know how much of a direct swap it would be. could be pretty direct. but then there would be the PCM and ECU swaps and other stuff that could get quite scary.

I'd just snag a mazdaspeed3 engine/transmission and do a front mounted intercooler.

it would take a decent bit of custom work (intercooler piping and such) but it would be so worth it. The 5 is an awesome car, and a really fast mazda5 would be tits!

Gotta get some upgraded springs, struts, and sway bars to give it the handling to back up that power though! I know AutoEXE makes stuff for the car, since the 5 is so uncommon (well it's way more common in Canada but it's still no honda civic) you'll probably have to import a lot of the stuff.

actually, the stock 5 mounts should work on the MS3 engine. Same with tranny. ECU and wiring harness would have to be re-done but thats a small price to pay for a 13s minivan. Just make sure you have a mtx 5 to start with or you're in over your head trying to swap in the manual as well.

Well I included tranny because of 6spd vs 5spd

I wonder if the MS3 ECU could be used just like the MSP ECU can be on Proteges.. unless the 5 wiring harness is waaaaay different (I know the 5 has a different ECU to give it more low end torque)

The mount locations and such will totally work but I'm sure the MS3 has upgraded mounts (including a tranny one that isn't bolted together properly and falls apart lol).

engine, tranny, ecu , and harness, should be it...that would be PRETTY pricey though...

would be awesome to see a MS 5 though !

That's what i was thinking too.

this is the type of response i was hoping for. it just took a few months! :scatter:

it wouldn't be too bad ($-wise) to buy a totalled MS3 and a used 5....

AutoEXE is a Japanese company.. there's quite a few importers that have their stuff though.

AutoEXE recommends Corksport (www.corksport.com) so I'd give them a buzz and see what they can do for you. AutoEXE stuff is very well made, well engineered, etc but it does come at a cost, especially since it all has to be custom imported since no one stocks their stuff here.

plus the autoexe body kit for the 5 is just.. so... beautiful

What you'd want to do is pull the entire subframe from the MS3 (ECU is in the engine bay also making it easier).

Swap in the new subframe and re-run the engine wiring harness through the firewall. There is a BIG difference in wiring harnesses of the MS3 and 5....the MS3 has sensors that the 5 doesn't.

That wouldbe a project i'd like to take on...Could probably be done in under a week.

That is a nice looking van with that kit on it. Put that turbo in and it would be kick ass.

Agreed. AutoEXE is amazing with their quality and products for the Mazdas!

I've thought about doing this same swap. This would def turn heads and probably get you on one of the mag pages.
