Pricing Question (dealers out there)
 

It seems that the 5's are going for about 700 over invoice (about 275 under sticker). Does anyone see this changing? How about low apr financing? thanks.

why would you pay over invoice?

In the NY/NJ/PA are the 5's and 3's are hot. Supply and demand. deales are getting what Lexus deales get for the IS (about 400 under msrp). The 6's, MPV's, and Tributes have great deals, but I want a 5!

do not pay over invoice for a car. If they will not sell you one at invoice pricing get on mazdausa.com and find the next 5 closest dealers to you. Call them or email and get invoice pricing.

Let me put it to you this way.

If I offered you $700 to drive an hour no strings attached would you do it? I sure would. Same premise here. Don't let a drive keep you from saving money. I saved almost $7K on our rx8 by buying one in MS when I live in AL. Shop around and deal with people who are willing to give you a fair price and invoice is a FAIR price.

No one wants to pay more than invoice for a car. However some models command premium pricing. Walk into a BMW or Audi dealer and they will laugh at invoice pricing. Offer a Porche or Corvette dealer invoice and they will laugh even louder. All mazda's with the exception of the 3, 5, and Miata go for around invoice. In my area dealers have a limited supply of 5's and no deals are to be had. I find it amusing that the 3's and 5's are in the same league as BMW's and Audi's!

I'm sorry man but you're just wrong. Mazdas have NOT demanded a premium since the 3rd gen rx7's and then those rotted on the lots due to overpricing (and other issues).

If you have a dealer that is unwilling to cooperate with you then leave and call someone else. Take my advice or not but I don't know anyone else that buys more new cars than me. I'm pretty ridiculous about trading out of cars and I know how to work the system. Also, as a former salesman and technician I do happen to have a better insight than say.....someone coming on this forum asking for help with the pricing.

Sometimes when you ask for advice you should try taking it. I wouldn't try to intentionally steer you down the wrong path. I'm just trying to save you money man!! If it's not worth it to you then by all means buy from whomever you desire.

No offense intended dude I will take your advise. I was just trying to say that up here (N.J.) the 3's and 5's are hot. I have 3 dealers near me and they all quoted close to sticker. I will call another few - like you recommended. All I was trying to say was that not all cars are sold close to invoice. If you are a great negotiator (which I am not) and you hit a particular dealer at the right time I am sure anything can happen. i get my info from carsdirect.com and edmunds.com to see what cars are going for in my area.

edmunds is your friend. Build the exact vehicle you want. Call your dealer and ask them to find it for you and get it on the lot. When they get it on the lot then go in and talk numbers. Just tell them you'll pay invoice and nothing else. They can either sell a car today or not sell a car. It's their bottom line, not yours. You can buy from anyone you want.

Remember this:

YOU have the money THEY want. Make them earn it.

Everything is crazy over priced in NJ. Thats why I bought my car in PA and saved a whole heap of cash.

Just in - I checked carsdirect.com and they show 5's at 200 over invoiice here in NJ. That is down from 700 last week. I''ll call around to see what is up. FYI I have found carsdirect to have the most up to date pricing and the only one to include all the factory to dealer incentives. The wife likes the Volvo v50 and carsdirect shows them at 2K under invoice! No other site has those incentives yet.

You could come down to Texas. I bought my Carbon Grey Touring 5 with manual transmission for $17,629. That's almost $2k under sticker.

I have to tell you all that I both own a Mazda and sell them for a living. I won't tell you where I work, but suffice it to say, we do all right.

I disagree with what some of you say about invoice being a fair price.

First off: Edmunds and all other third party websites, are incorrect as to what the dealer invoice actually is. In the case of the Mazda 3 for instance they are off by about $270. They'll get you in the ball park, but if any of you can actually purchase a car from Edmunds, please let me know.

Second: Holdback is Sacred. Don't ask for it because you won't get it. Even Edmunds says don't ask for it.

Third: As a salesman, if I sell you a car for invoice. I earn nothing. This is my job and I am trying to continue eating regularly. It is just a passtime for me I suppose, but I do enjoy it.

Fourth: Market value of a car does affect the pricing. Just because Edmunds says the True Market Value is some number, if there is only one of them in a 400 mile radius, i.e. 3s GT or 3i Touring Automatics you will pay a premium to get this car.

That is all.

I just bought a Phantom Blue Mazda5 Touring with the Nav system yesterday, so now my '02 P5 has a cousin. :-)

As far as pricing goes, I was able to get the Mazda5 for about US$400 less than the invoice (US$2000 less than MSRP), which actually surprised me. I think it helped my position a little in that they had a Black Sport on sale for $2000 less than MSRP.

Of the 40 or so Mazda5s in the area, according to Mazda's online inventory, only 7 were Touring models. Given that, I could understand the deep discounts on the Sports, but hey, if they want to sell me a Touring for less, that's fine with me.

Then again, this is South Texas (San Antonio): land of the SUV and mega-minivan, so this probably isn't the best market for the Mazda5.

I just saw MD5's post about buying one in Texas for $2K less than MSRP. There must be something to this "getting the Mazda 5 for less than invoice in Texas".

The MSRP on mine was US$22,410, and they sold it to me for US$20,400. So if you want a Mazda5, drive your trade-in down to Texas and swing by some Mazda dealers! :)

$100 over invoice. All oil changes every 5000 K miles for first two years at $5 plus they rotate the tires - No extra charge. Sales and service people are a lot better than the Dodge people I was working with (I cancelled an order for a Caliber to get the 5), and the dealership is only 3 miles from the house. I'm satisfied.
