water puddles and cold air intakes dont mix
 

first of all id like to say i havent screwed my car up yet, but i dont have a bypass valve for my cold air intake, and i drove through a huge puddle the other day. i am worried about getting my engine water logged. i got a bypass valve already on the way...learned from that scare. i dont notice anything different about my engine, the car runs fine, and im pretty sure i dont have any problems. i was just wondering about the symptoms i should be looking out for just in case water did get sucked up into my engine. like failure to crank, sputtering, no throttle response, what have you? i think im ok, but i need to know if i should be on the lookout for anything in particular. thanks.

You should be ok. I had one on my protege before I bought my 3 and ran over plenty of puddles. From what I gather from reading post in the past Its really a matter if the cone is submersed in water and sucking. If that didn't happen you'll be just fine and nutin to worry about

You have to submerg the pipe head in water, even if your filter was some how splashed, its not enough to cause problems. the water would sprinkle into the intake manofold, that after making its way upward in the pipe. your intake isnt a votex of doom.

but if you have any worrys get the INJEN Prefilter, which is like a super thing cover for the filter that is water resistant

its a 10% air flow penalty but only harms -2 Horse power from the 9 overall HP gain. and if its wintertime you will gain the 2 HP back from the very cold air from outside.

Or you can just use an SRI--unless you can really feel that extra 1whp.

You need to completely submerge your filter for hydrolock. If you didn't get any problems off the bat, you aren't going to see any down the road. The damage would be almost instantaneous; water isn't going to sit along the intake tract and magically collect and ruin the engine in a few more miles :p
