Trying to stop Vibration

My wife's 2005 Mazda 3 has the classic 90-100 km/hr vibration I've read about here that seems to indicate a bad passenger side engine mount.

I took the engine mount off tonight and it seems to be fine - no tears, and is quite firm and together. I've had three different sets of tires on this car - old summer, winter tires, and the latest, brand new quality summer tires. All balanced, and had an alignment done. Nothing helps.

Do these mounts look ok, but still cause vibration? If so, should I just replace it with another stock one, or the one that service bulletin 03-001/06 says?

Should I also look at the #4 mount? Is it likely to cause the problem? (The #1 mount underneath looks ok) Why isn't there a #2 mount?

Help! This is damn frustrating. I hate to just take it to a dealer, because this is the kind of thing they could go to town on and charge big bucks, I think. I'd rather replace a few parts myself. It doesn't look like rocket science.

road force balancer - look for a shop with one. You could have a bent rim - you mentioned summer / winter tires but do you use the same rims for both?

No, two different sets of rims. I also rotated tires front to back, so actually had three different sets of rims on the front.

Never heard of a road force balancer. I'll ask around.

Are you saying if the stock #3 engine mount is sound, it couldn't be the problem? Are they only an issue because they fall apart?

Frank
