Introduction / Advise for replacing rod bearings

Hey All,

Quick introduction, Name is Ian, been in the automotive scene for quite sometime. On multiple forums (rennlist, volvospeed, vortex, nasioc, fordfestiva.com ext..) so I might know some of you from those. Quick car run down, 86' 944 turbo, 88' ford festiva with a mazda 323 gt 1.6 B6t swap that was putting down about 240 whp, 99' volvo s70 T5-M that has seen its fare share of fame on IPD usa, FCP Euro, SNABB and so on..

Long story short, I picked up an 06' Mazda 3 for 100$. Has a very slight rod knock so I am tearing her apart this weekend to replace them before any serious damage occurs. I found this write up on removing the balance shafts

http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=44045.0

Question. Does the 2.0 have the balance shafts? All the "BSD delete" kits I have seen have been for the 2.3 and I cannot even find documentation on there being balance shafts in the 2.0. I searched quickly but nothing came up on here.

Also, any other suggestions for those who have dug into the bottom end on these cars will be very useful. Thanks for listening, glad to have joined the 3 club.

The 2.0L do have balance shafts.

Contact your local Mazda dealer, there is a SST needed for rebuilding... Its a little pin that holds the crank for timing. You will not be able to set timing properly without it.

I really haven't "dug" into the bottom end before besides warranty claim through Mazda however they are your basic 4 cylinder so just follow all Clearance & Torque specifications and you should be fine :D

Regards,

Braden
