intake system
ok so i just bought a mazda3 and i was thinking of putting a intake on it i dont know a whole lot about cars but im learning. i want to add a little bit more HP to the car and was wondering if a intake would do that for me. also what are the best types to get i know there is a short air and stuff like that. a lil push in the right way would help a lot thanks guys. :)

You have two main options, a short ram intake and a cold air intake. K&N has a nice model for the 3 that allows you to interchange between each type (the typhoon CCA). Depending on your source and where you live i believe you can find anywhere from 200-300$. In my experience, the intake makes my Mazda more responsive, achieves better gas mileage and sounds more aggressive but without a dyno I can't confirm if it really adds the 5.74hp at 4764rmp it claims.

the intake is the best place to start when modding. however, i will tell you from personal experience, ive put on an AEM cold air intake and love it. but, i'm constantly plaqued with a system too lean at idle CEL. i've had it looked at and vacuum tested and basically, itll never go away. the intake sucks in so much air that its outside the parameters of the computer's checks. the car runs better than ever and is definitely quicker, but the CEL comes and goes as it pleases with the engine monitoring cycles.
still, i'm glad i have it. if you get a cold air intake that goes down low, GET A HYDROSHIELD FILTER COVER! it helps repel water and you'll definitely need it. even with mine installed, if its raining hard, and i'm like on the highway and punch it to pass a guy, the engine will stutter and not accelerate like normal. but its fine when its dry. your best bet, and my best recommendation, just from internet research, would probably be here at protegegarage.com: http://protegegarage.com/256-product-256.html **note: this is under the 04-09 mazda 3. if i had to do it all over, i wouldnt go with AEM cold air, but i'd for sure get this carbon fiber shorty. i'm still thinking about it soon too, depends how rainy this year is. post some pics when/if you do mod. |
Intake in California?
I've been looking around and if you have a manual tranny and outside of California, then Injen's part # SP6062 sports an advertised 33+ HP gain!.
Well, as it turns out, I AM in California and I have an automatic in my 2011 Mazda 3 (2.5L). Any ideas that might be close to that level of gain? |
bullshit. cais add like 2-5 hp. short rams are even less cause they just suck in warm engine bay heat. ive never had any CELs driving through several bitterly cold winters, and rainy summers. but no puddle splashing on the drivers side!

Since that's probably too complicated a sentence structure for you, then hear this: (The nice version) Don't knock it 'til you've tried it! The accurate version) You don't know what the hell you're taking about!!! You're just a small, insignificant person that should just go away. |
[QUOTE=Daniel Hitson;416466]It's ignorant asssholes like you and gron that invalidate the benefit of forums such as these. Unless you've done the research and post installation dyno-testing, your uninformed, inexperienced opinion is completetely unsubstantiated.

You call me ignorant but you comming on here and promoting a product to members that will never deliver what it promises is not only ignorant but irrisponsible and cancer to forums like this. Secondly this forum had been usless to me. I have another veichle and belong to a few forums regarding that veichle and the information in invauleable. They answer you questions and can help diagnose problems online. This forun is only good if i want a good place to find what is the coolest color neon light to put in the foot well. and even then the majority of the rrsponses are "miss should be done forprrsonal preference not what other people think." I have tried to get info twice on here. The first question was about headlights and I was told to buy fog lights or go to a mechanic. Second time was a technical question about aenginr tick and i got no reaponse cause retards like you have zero technical/mechanical knowledge to offer. Instead you just throw around coolaide about how some intake is supposed to produce some ungodly amount of hp. Then again you sound like you have the dyno results to prove to me it does produce 33HP. Don't get me wrong I was not being a Dick to the OP. She had a legit question that deserved a ligit response I was being a Dick to you. You my friend are the ignorant one and to any one who has knowledge you proved that by offering a intake that will produce that much HP. |

If adding 30+ hp were as easy as adding a cone filter and moving it to the front of the car, don't you think Mazda would have put in in at the factory? |
