HELP! 06 3rd gear grinding
Not sure if i'm posting under the correct forum, but here goes:
I have a 5 speed '06 3 with 100k+ miles. About 2-3 weeks ago it started grinding most of the time when I shift into 3rd gear. It isn't every time, it seems that when I'm at about 2,500-3,000 RPM it will shift smoothly, but that isn't a guarantee either. Is there a somewhat simple solution to this that doesn't involve going to a mechanic and having him try to con me because I happen to be female? Thanks! |
I hope it's not your transmission getting old.
The 1st thing I'd do is change the transmission fluid to something synthetic and high-quality. Redline MT-90, Royal Purple, and NEO are three great brands. 75-W90 is the correct weight. It's really not that hard to do, but it can be a little messy. You'll need 3 quarts of 75W-90 transmission fluid(you car takes about 2 and 3/4 quarts). Like I said, It could get a little messy unless you're super careful, but when you're done, it feels great to know YOU'RE the one who fixed it. :) Here's a how-to: http://www.mazda3forums.com/showthread.php?t=287768 |
wish me luck!
Thanks! I'm most likely going to try this on Sunday (if I have the time), I'll let you know how it goes :)
