Coil Packs - Need to Purchase
Interesting event happened yesterday. I went to Auto Zone to purchase Coil Packs for my 2004 M3. I recently replaced the plugs and wanted to do the packs. They brought the item up on their computer it said they were not available. The guy called a warehouse his buddy worked at and they didn't carry them either. So am I screwed in having to take this to the dealer to have them replace my coil packs? I could do this in 20 minutes for a fraction of the cost.

why? are yours shorting out?
|
I'll assume they just wither and die at high mileage like the 3rd gen Protege coil packs. Us 3rd gen guys have the same trouble obtaining the coil packs. Our last hope, napaonline.com, has declared them 'no longer available' so now we're just dead :P
|
I was thinking that I should replace them as standard in the tune-up process (I just did my plugs). Also - My car has been sputtering a little bit while in idle so I thought that might be it too. I've got about 85,000 miles on it right now.

I don't know how the 3 coil packs are compared to the third gen, but I'm at 85k now and I needed new coil packs 5k miles ago. Mine were bulging and becoming quite rusty
|
Did you already get them replaced?
If so did you take them to the dealer? |
I got mine off some guy who obtained an extra set ..
where have you checked online? www.napaonline.com was the place that had the Protege coil packs for $17.88 a piece (x2), the dealer wanted $150 each. |
Haven't really done that much research online yet. I'll be doing that tonight. F**king Dealerships. Total ripoff. Can't believe they can get away with that.
|
They're dubbed stealerships for a reason I guess, haha.
But what can you do if there's only one source? |
Found them on Napa for $100. Doesn't say for how many but I am assuming it's for the 4 of them and not just one. Thanks for the link Kensei. Big up !
