Blow off valve?
 

Hi all...

Am planning to get the new Mazda 3. It's not launch here in Singapore yet but it certainly looks yummy. From the reviews I've read on this car, it seems that performance, looks (interior, exterior) have improve tremendously. Was just wondering if anyone has tried a blow off valve on this car? I know that most turbo charged cars comes with the blow off valve but what about natural aspirated cars like the Mazda 3? What are the pros and cons to it. Kindly advise. Thank you.

I suggest you do some research on this because I'm having real trouble not laughing about this right now.

The purpose of a blow off valve is to relieve the pressure created by a turbo when the throttle body is closed. This allows the turbo to keep spinning with the throttle body closed instead of the wheel being slammed to a stop since the air has nowhere to go.

Therefore, this extends the life of your turbo by being easier on it as well as decreases the amount of lag in the turbo between shifts since it would not need to take the time to spool up again.

Soooo an N/A car does not use a Blow off valve because there is nothing to blow off and it would serve no purpose.

In response to your question.

The pros: You can say you have a blow off valve and people will think your car will be really fast because it's turbo charged.

The cons: You will not get that blow of valve sound, and you'll look stupid to everyone that you tell you have a blow off valve to because they'll see your car is not that fast, and does not even have a turbo.

Your alternative is getting one of those N/A blow off valves off of ebay. They are basically just a speaker that makes the sound of a blow off valve when you let off on the throttle.

The Pros to this: You get the blow off valve sound!

The cons: You still look stupid.
