acetone?

Anybody heard of people mixing acetone in their gas? Supposedly it reduces the surface tension of the gas and makes it easier to burn, and burns more completely, therefore better mileage. But I dunno.... Any comments?

I don't think that is a very good idea. Acetone is very caustic. If you spill any of it on your car, you may ruin the paint. And by the time you buy the acetone and stick it in your car, what savings are you really gaining?
If you want better gas mileage don't step on the gas pedal as hard. It will make a bigger difference.

hi.
i agree that acetone is very caustic, but it's a perfect oxidizing agent as well. the only question here is correct proportion of acetone in mixture. it was found practically and optimized year and a half ago in a workbench. engine performed 14,5 % better. on-the-road tests showed 15% reduction mileage wise due to better combustion. the car is still good and perform well after all these - no signs of corrosion and compression ok. the mixture should be 16:1 (gas:acetone) e.g. half a pint of acetone for each gallon of gas.
