Yet another CAI question
I saw lots of CAI threads for the protege but none for the 3 that gave a good guestimate of the gains I should expect to get from adding one.
AEM's site lists the peak gains at 6.5 hp, and 10 ft/lbs which I'll guess is being overly generous, but what should I really expect? I have the 2.3l MTX. As well, will I notice any difference by replacing the piping after the cat with 2.25" along with the stock muffler when combined with the CAI? Is it reasonable to expect 8 whp, and 10 ft/lbs for that combination? Also, if so, will I actually notice that kind of power gain, or will I just notice it being louder? Thanks for all the advice. If I wasn't thinking of picking one up later this week, I'd just wait until people posted their experiences. |
I seen plenty of thread and site claiming that the CAI give hp, because it cold air and also mandrel bent aluminum. But here the problem I have with this cold air intake it runs in the engine bay area (hot) thus warming the air in the tube because metal we all know is a good source to conduct heat. It should be made out of plastic or at least insulated. Also the CAI is almost 300$ which translate to 1 hp = 50$ which is expensive for minimal gains I think.
I replaced mine air filter with the KN filter replacement and I didn't notice anything on the "butt-o-meter" but I have yet to see about the gas mileage though before with the stock filter I was avg 28 to 33 mpg with the KN filter I'll keep you posted. |
just wondering what the part # for the K&N filter is ... and what was the price ... thanks!

It cost 80$ and I will get you the part number if I still have this weekend.

... $56. CDN .... thanks for the info .... :camaro: ;pee; :bt:

I quoted 2 stores here in Ottawa, one was 64$ and the other 67$; and I paid 71$ with tax included.
Also on ebay they are selling them at 36$ US but to get it at your door you have to add shipping, brokerage fee, convert to CDN and taxes. Which would be still around 70$ - 80$ and plus the fact you have to wait a week or so. So where did you buy yours D-man? |

I've also had good experiences with Speedtech Auto in Toronto. I'm sure I got a K&N filter for my honda prelude for under $50 as well... |
Guys:
The place in Toronto, or Ottawa for that matter, do you know the name of the CAI you bought, and did it fit properly? Also, can I get the websites or phone numbers so that I can order my own? I'd appreciate it. |
AEM or INJEN seem to be the popular one to install. You can check their website from a google search and they will locate you a dealer in your area.
One thing I wish I could see the actual result of a CAI, some people are boosting big differences with them while other none. |
