WalMart Oil Change Today

I tried to save a buck and get an oil change at Walmart for my '10 Mazda 3.

When I paid and started driving, the oil light was on. So I pulled back in and told them. He came out and started the engine briefly and quickly turned it off, saying it might be leaking oil and that the last filter was on real tight. I heard the oild coming out of the filter when he started it and there was tons of oil under the car when he pulled it back into the bay.

So they drove it in and told me it was okay now. He said the filter might have been bad or they may have screwed it on crooked.

Should I be worried that they ruined the threads on the engine filter spot? The oil light is not coming on now.

Should I get the oil drained and a new filter just to be safe? At a local garage or something or even the dealer?

step one: don't go to walmart for an oil change

Step two: check to see what's leaking/cross threaded. If you have the cartridge style filter then the filter drops into a housing which then screws onto the car. The housing is plastic, the part it screws onto is metal.

Step three: if you need to replace anything (and have the cartridge filter) then do the spin on filter conversion. Much easier to use and less messy.

Step four: get some basic tools and change your own oil for way cheaper.
