VIN number needed

Hi all!
I'm trying to install cruise control into my 3 sedan. (2008).
The problem I'm now facing is that the computer doesn't "understand" the commands supplied by the controls - (it does understand the turn on/off command thow - the "cruise" orange led goes on/off but speed can't be set)

I need a VIN number of a mazda 3 with the following specs:
2L engine
Automatic gearbox
Climate Control
Cruise control

Guys, if someone of you is an owner of a 3 with such specs (doesn't matter sedan or hatchback) - please provide the VIN number of your car.

Using it I will be able to program the computer in my car to recognize the cruise control commands.

Many thanks in advance, Tal.

Are you installing a factory cruise control?

talr February-23rd-2008 08:53 AM

Yes indeed.
But as I understood only the control interface has to be installed, as the throttle is electronic...

You have to add the controls and the brake switch. Also there's a difference in p/n's for pre '07 and post '07 models.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understood - what is the talked about "p/n"s?
Mine is the latest model.
And the controls I got were desmounted from mazda 6 (don't know the make). The wires were put to cerrect places (connector differs from 6 to 3)

Would i be correct in reading that you are trying to put a factory cruise control from a mazda 6 onto your Mazda 3 ? I have installed dozens of cruise controls on 3's. They require the steering wheel control & a brake switch ,which comes as a kit . If your trying to mix and match different units for different cars ...perhaps that's the problem . The factory kit is plug and play, 20 minute job . And the only trouble we have encountered , is if you get the brake switch installed cock eyed, the system will act funny, (brakes feel screwed up & the cruise will kick out)

Yes, yopu are correct.
Only controls I was able to find (the button on the steering wheel) were from mazda 6. There is no mazda 3 with cruise control here.
I opened the wiring diagram, and changed the wires positions as they shall be in the 3.
As I said before, the on/off button seems to work.
The question is where do I put the brakes switch, and which wires it shall be connected to? It should use the brake pedal wire, isn't it?

You said there is a kit for this. Could you please provide a link?

Besides, to my service guy said it looks like the computer just does not understand the commands (except the on/off).
What did you mean by saying thr brakes pedal was acting strange?

The part numbers you need are

BS3E-66-4MO SWITCH, STEERING WHEEL W/CRUISE
BN7N-66-490 SWITCH, BRAKE, W/CRUISE

It could be everything will work fine with the control switch you have, though like rsx said it could be that's your problem. I didn't even think the controls from the 6 were the same shape as the ones for the 3.

Yes The Control Buttons You Installed Seem ,for The Most Part To Function . You May Get Away With This . But You Do Need To Change Out The Brake Switch As It Is Different . What I Meant By Act Funny Is ,if The Brake Switch Is Installed Incorrectly It Will Push On The Brakes At All Times (drag) And The Cruise Will Kick Out . And At Times Accel Forward, When Brake Touched .

Sorry..... was typing , by the time i looked up i said shit ! oh well .

I've check the existing parts in the area of the break pedal, and foun a blue "on/off switch" having 4(!) wires connected to it.
As i understand, there supposed to be a "normally closed" switch missing.
Why then, the regular one has 4 wires? Doesn't the regular "normally open" need only two?

rsx type s February-27th-2008 05:18 AM

If get a chance i'll look in the wire diagram today . When i install a cruise control ,the box comes with a steering control switch , steering wheel bolt & a new brake switch . Which must be different from the factory (no cruise ) car. If the switch (steering wheel ) you have installed is going to work ,then your going to need the proper brake switch for sure.

From further investigations I performed, I found out the original brake switch has only 2 conectors, even thou there are 4 wires.
I've check with our Mazda importer - and it looks like there is no option to buy the "integrated" brake switch here. I did not find it over E-Bay.
I intend to improvise for now. I will create a "normally closed" circuit, which will open when the two "outer" wires on the brake switch are pressed.
That - in order to have the option already (I'm very eager to have it :-) ).

I'm currently looking for an option to buy it from abroad (i'm about to visit europe in closest month or two, maybe I'll find it there). Meanwhile I'll use the improvised version of the switch, and if I don't find the needed original part in europe - I will probably ask from some one in US to buy and send me one of those...

Anyway, if someone here could (and want) to do such a thing (via e-Bay for example) - I would be glad.

I plan to do it on this friday - will update then.
