Underbody Neons

Has any1 yet put any neons under the car. Even any car. I am looking for some sort of neon for under the car that would look really nice during night time.

Can some1 also help me find the law concerning tinting and neons on the car. I heard somewhere that you cannot ever tint windows pass 50% and neons are illegal in some states..

Illegal in states means that you can have it but you get a ticket if a cop sees you driving with them on? Or you cannot even install them...

I live in New Jersey and cannot seem to find any motor vehicle codes, or laws on the internet. Any help would be very appreciated.

Don't do it!!! It's a pain in the ass to put them on the 3.... I got a blue LED kit, and I'm thinking about taking off. There is nowhere to put the brackets on all four sides. I had to ghetto rig it on all of them(it's a shame).
Also, the Tint law is gone in GEORGIA!!!!(i don't know about rest of the states) And NEONS are DEFINETLY ILLEGAL!

well thanx a lot for solving that. Maybe when i get the bodykit described in sedan bodykit post it will have better positions for mounting. How hard can it be to mount them in a difrent location? Can't you just tie them down with some clamps to the frame?

Well I still need to find out about the tinting, and I might still go ahead with the neon too, if it will not be a pain to wire and set.

Hey Polish,

Underbody Neon kits are pretty much illegal in almost if not all states and in Canada in all provinces the same rule applies. The rule for tinting in all states and provinces usually is: you can tint the windows as long as you dont tint the driver side window and the passenger side window and the windshield. With my M3 I have it all tinted from the driverside back. So backseat windows, pod windows and hatch windows are all done. Very dark and looks good and alllllll legal bro. For local laws I would just as a traffic cop he will give you the 411.

Yeah and then ill have to get a donut to bribe him with for the info... The cops here are real jerkof**. There should be a website for this kinda stuff, and I cannot seem to find anything, I got a better chance calling the DMV and talking to them.

I'll tell you exactly what the problem is....
Front: There is no real good place for you to put the brackets without being able to see them, but generally not a problem
Sides: If you want to do it in-front of the place you jack, you have to screw through your sideskirts... behind it, you have to drill a hole through the bodypanel(HARD!) and sucks unless you have a lift
Back: There are only two things that sticks out and for me my got dang muffler is in the way and the neon is off to the left(to avoid it from getting too near to the muffler)

As I said before, don't do it, it was a waste of my friend's money and my time!

PolishDriver77 February-13th-2005 09:44 AM

But it looks so nice... I think I might just use the money to get the gtvr bodykit i was talking about in the other thread. Because I am not about to drill hole throughtout the body of the car, and I also saw the muffler as a problem.

Did any1 else notice how stupid the muffler design is? The muffler sits about in the passanger seat area as then it follows by about 5ft pipe to a tip in the rear.
With that setup you cannot really install any normal style muffler.

here are some pics of my muffler (its custom bent pipe, before the cat and straight through...)

Why are they illegal anyway? If anything they make your car more visible and imo safer.

Its really distracting to other drivers, and also, if you have blue, than you are imitating a police officer which is a FELONY!!! dun Dun DUN! I think red is for fire, and white is ambulance(Im not sure, check your DMV book), basically the EMERGENCY vehicles.

PolishDriver77 February-14th-2005 08:57 PM

figures, i was going for red

need4speed February-15th-2005 07:30 PM

Yep I agree with carbon on the colors schemes with emerg vehicles. Or should I say Vee-hickle. Yeah ok j/k

Ya... you might not be able to drive with them, but you could wire a switch somewhere fancy inside and turn them on if you are showing the car. I'm not sure you would get pulled over if you were stopped with your car with lights underneath. Me and my friend came up with a cool idea to wire the lights underneath to the alarm so when you lock your car the lights underneath flash or even maybe flash a lock symbol on the ground? Also I was looking at maybe replacing the map lights with blue lights in my 3.

yeah you can always drive with them but just turn them on anytime you want them and you could drve arround once in a while anyways is just a ticket
