Okay I know what the TPMS does but I just put a new set of rims on my Mazdaspeed 3. Now my light is on. Is there anyway to turn it off or disconnect it. I was under the impression that the TPMS sensor's are attached to the inside of the stock rims. So by putting new rims on without TPMS sensors it causes my light to stay on. Anybody with any addvice.

Your new rims are probably not TPMS friendly, as in, you probably cannot mount the old TPMS sensors onto the new rims. Since the TPMS computer doesnt recognize them, it's turning the light on. The only way that I know of to turn the light off is to have the stock rims installed back onto the car. Or you just might have to put a piece of electrical tape over the warning lamp and forget about it. LOL. Or, if you are feeling very adventurous, pull the guage cluster out and remove the bulb. Of course, if you damage any thing while doing this I don't know if Mazda will cover it under warranty.

I spoke with a tech today at my local Mazda dealership about the TPMS and my aftermarket rims. He told me that good news the TPMS sensor or whatever is mounted right on the Valvestem inside the rim. He took a look at the ADR's I have on my MS3 and he said all I would have to do is get a local tire shop to take the sesors off the stock rims and get them put on the aftermarket set. Now needless to say that might cost a couple dollars, or I could just deal with that stupid light being on. But at least I now there is at least another option.

How much would an honest tire guy charge? I inquired at a local shop and they said it'd cost $60 for the new pieces + labor. Is this a good deal?

Anything under $100 is generally good. Keep in mind that most shops charge a minimum, just to get the car in there.

Those places make a decent amount of cash, so you won't see many shops taking the car in for under 40-50 bucks, no matter what needs to be done.

You can search on ebay for mazda 3 TPMS sensors - I found a set from a 2006 that worked in my 2007. They screwed right in to the aftermarket rims, i'd bet most alloy rims would be made to fit TPMS units. Just make sure they seal cause there's only dismounting the tire to fix it. But it's cool for a second set of winter tires :)
