Speed Regulator Plate Question

does anybody know whether or not i can get my SPD off? i have a 2004 3 5s and i cant go any faster than 120 mph.

Matty Mooling September-13th-2004 08:18 AM

why do you need to go faster than 120 mph???

Roddimus Prime September-13th-2004 08:57 AM

why does a 16yr old female in her first car need to go over 120mph? and why do you think there is a "plate" to control this?

Alexa September-13th-2004 12:35 PM

:wtf: Where the hell are you doing 120mph in Columbia at?

Bluehatch32 September-13th-2004 12:37 PM

How are you doing 120? The governor stops the car at 107mph.

tsunami September-13th-2004 04:38 PM

no its 117.... and if i am not mistaken its computer controlled.... so importdracerroxy the answer to your question is no there is no plate, and as far as "chipping" our cars to take away the govn'r you would have to go stand alone.....??...

You might want to expand on this a little for her, if she thinks there's a plate that slows her down she might think you mean to go stand alone in a corner or something! :shift: We're not running NASCAR restrictor plates here.....

i've gone that fast on 175 on the stretch thru the woods between dobbin road and tamar drive, and i've gone that fast on 32, 100, and 29.

i race some people sometimes... sorry all, but someone before had told me it was a "plate" that regualted the speed; i guess i was wrong. so, if it's computer controlled is there like a way to hook something up to the computer to control it?

expanding....

what i am telling you IRR is that to get rid of the govn'r you would need a new computer map, and since the new mazda's are very much a pain in the arse to crack it will be a while before such a "chip" comes out if ever. so the only other route for you to go would be what they call a stand alone unit. this is a completely different computer therefore it can be programmed by the people that would install it for you. if you do a search i believe there are some threads about this that give a couple manufacturers. though i would suggest get a cold air intake, and a cat back exhaust system. those two things there will probably run you a cool grand combined or more... you won't get any more out of your top end b/c of the govnr but you will get there quicker.... also another quick way to add acceleration is a lighter fly wheel.... though thats probably 4-5 hundred.... just some ideas

thanx, that helped a lot.

Actually, the magic number is 118, and it is the ECU that controls stuff.
Part of the reason for the limiter are the severely sucky tires.
Rumor has it the Japanese cars have no such limiter.

Glad that whoever got you the car had the forethought to get the ABS/SAB/SAC

At this rate you'll be our crash test dummy with a good chance of walking away.

Have you considered asking for a HP driving school as a birthday present?
Would be good for you to know what to do when the car gets squirrely on you.
I for one would like to have you around for a while.

There are companys working on a piggyback computer for the 3's just try not to crash your 3 before they are done
