Sluggish!!!

First of all I just wanted to say hello to everyone out there. I have noticed that when first starting to drive my 07 Mazda 3 sedan, it is very sluggish until full warmed. Even on warm summer days. The problem happens in the first part of the RPM's, lets say 1k to 3k. Then all of a sudden it will surge when it hits 3,500. About10 minutes later the car drives perfect. I have taken the car to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. Oh well I geuss, just wondered if anyone else had this happen.

If you get cold winters, may be a good idea to use synthetic fluids for your oil and tranny.

It's most likely just cold oil making your car sluggish for the first 10 minutes. It might even have something like 10w30 (summer oil) in it.

I was thinking that might have something to do with it but the car is brand new, 5000 miles. It has been doing it since it day one. Also it is still fairly warm, 65 degrees. This is going to drive me nuts. Oh well, thank you for the reply. This web site is definately the best Mazda forum I have found.

Brand new doesn't equal synthetic though. The dealer may have filled it up with cheap/summer fluids right from the start.

I use Mobil1 5W20 fully synthetic. Why don't you go to the dealer and ask to drive a brand new car like yours and compare? Is your car auto? They tend to be a little sluggish than the manual.

I might do that. When I brought it in for a checkup they conviently scheduled it before the dealer was open. The car is a manual, but I am probably going to switch oil.

Oil is the cheapest maintenance you can do you a car, and it's one of the most important.

It may seem just sluggish to you, but bad/old/wrong oil can actually cause damage and reduce the life of the car.

Not worth the risk for the price of synth oil if you ask me.

Got it!!!! Next Oil change I will definately bring my own oil, and hopefully they will be willing to use the Mobil1.

Heh, sorry, not trying to sound like an ass :p

Doing the transmission flush too, or just oil and see how it goes?

ZAG048 November-4th-2007 07:31 PM

Well, I scheduled a meeting with the service manager and my salesman. I am going to test drive another brand new, manual 07 mazda 3. I am going to see if it does the same thing. I just can't imagine doing a transmission flush with only 5,000 miles on it. I just brought it in for the first oil change a month ago. I would really not be happy if it did infact need a transmission flush. Atleast it is noted in their system incase something goes wrong. But I will definately bring up the transmission flush. Thanks.

Yeh, it's most likely not that there's anything wrong with the tranny fluid you have in there right now, it's most likely brand new stuff.

The thing is, if it's brand new, non-synthetic fluid, it may still need to be warmed up before driving.

When you test drive a car, make sure it's cold first. Lots of dealers like to warm up the car prior to letting you test drive it.

Yeah, I figured they might do that. I will definately keep my eyes open in case they decided to warm it up.
