Besides, you are adding another componenet you have to clean :)

Hello! I'm new here...bought my Mazda 3 Sport in March. I have only a very minor issue I was curious about. Has anyone with a manual noticed the metal finish on the top of the shift knob wearing off? Mine started to turn a matte brassy colour within 2 months of be owning it.

Other than that I have been resonably happy with the car.

Hello all, I'm new to the board. Got a 3 Sept 25th and have 4100m on it. Only one prob so far... my CEL just came on recently. They are changing the cap but the part is on back order. From what I've seen on these threads I would have thought they would have ordered a billion of those things in. I am getting about 28 mpg and 80% of my driving is highway. I ahve a little trouble staying off the accelerator and drive about 80 on my commute. I had a Dodge Avenger before. I got used to driving fast. Hey SRH that GIF is hilarious. I got a good laugh when I saw it. I am worried about the same thing you are talking about although it has not been a problem in my 3 yet.
Later all

Hey droxyn 3! Glad you like my avatar. The silly green creature is called a "Bunchie".

From what I can tell by reading all the complaints of CEL lights and caps...perhaps I should preorder one for when mine decides to go. As of yet, aside from the crappy looking shift knob I haven't had any problems at 13 200 km.

Hey SRH,

Totally understand about the shift knob - coming from a vinyl shifter - I hated how my thumb would smudge up the metal finish - I just learned to shift differently!

Newbie question - is there someone where you can go to check out if there are any recalls on the car?

Tx in advance!

Yeah, I've already started to grip it differently to avoid making matters worse. The sad thing is I shouldn't have to do that. I'll probably replace it with something nicer...

register at www.mazdausa.com , under owners, and imediately it will tell you if there are any recalls on your mazda, that's how i found out about my crash sensor recall.

any 05 owner got problems?

Just got my 05 hatchback yesterday, after reading this thread I surely feel a bit scary... :(

05 model is in for 3 months. any complaints from 05 owners so far? I know they are same as the 04. But did Mazda really NOT do anything on the CEL or the rear disk dusts or freaking stalling???

bob teatow Nov 29, 2004 07:51 AM

ppxia - I wouldn't sweat it much. Most of the CEL's reported here were just the gas cap thing - which had a recall. I have a late 04 build and no recalls on mine (yet !). Remember these kind of boards are a magnet for complainers and fanatics (good and bad :D ).

Even the gal who had the stalls finally got it fixed under warrantee. Seems she had a bum fuel pump. Of course her dealer/mechanic tried changing out everything else in the fuel system before finally fixing the real problem. Partly that was due to the fact that changing a fuel pump that is INSIDE the fuel tank is a PIA - because you've got to deal with siphoning out the gas which can be dangerous and messy and then putting it all back together and getting is sealed up again properly. And partly because the mechanic was not a great diagnostician (after replacing all the usual easy, suspect parts he should have put on his thinking cap :) ! ) And partly, because I just have a feeling that comes across in the posts that our friend Danielle (IIRC) is a bit of a whining perfectionist and/or unlucky - I mean geeze - she also had them replace the carpeting!!! Hello fellow Mazda 3 owners. I've had mine for almost 3 monthsSo far, in terms of problems, 2 things have come up and I was wondering if anybody would have an opinion on.

1- I have trouble starting the car when it's been sitting for an hour or more. The engine crankls normally, so I it's not the starter or battery - I think it's the fuel pump, because when I try it the second time, it starts no problem. When I turn the key to the "ON" position for several seconds, it will normally start from the first try. I don't think it's a major problem, but it is annoying, on a brand new car.

I think it's the fuel pump - and I don't want them to change the wrong part or something.

2- This is a pretty minor one, but I recently noticed that when the car is in "Park" (I have automatic transmission), there is this annoying clicking sound coming from the gear shift when I press the brake. This only happens when I'm in "park". I'm thinking it has something to do with the meachanism that prevents you from shifting without pressing the brake when your on park.

Any thoughts?
I'm going to call the dealer today for an appointment.

Desiwoman Nov 29, 2004 01:00 PM

Allancooks,

Tx for the info - does this work for Mazdas purchased in Canada as well?

whiny, unlucky perfectionist

You know what Bob teatow, fuck you.
You have no right to say things about people on this web site. The internet isn't for trying to read in to people, especially not your web site. It's for trying to help people with car problems. I suggest that you keep your personal thoughts and opinions to yourself, when it comes to 21,000 dollar cars, there is no such thing as unlucky.
And what should we call you? Let's see, you seem like a fat assed, condesending child with half a brain if he thinks calling people names on a professional web site will win him internet friends. Wake up.
Fuck you.

Hitman Hart Nov 30, 2004 11:33 AM

Ok... so putting any animosity aside, does anybody have any thoughts on the problem(s) with my car?

I made an appointment with the dealer for thursday, so we'll see what comes out of their diagnostics.

I tried starting the car yesterday (after letting it sit most of the day), and it did start from the first try, but after a longer than usual crank (but it did crank normally). I still think it's a problem witht he fuel not getting to the injectors fast enough, but it may be a voltage issue as well. We'll see. Haven't had any CEL lights though.

As far as the loud clicking noise when I press the brakes while on Park, it's probably an adjustment, or replacing the clip (or whatever it's called) underneath the gear-shift.

I'm just hoping for a good visit with the meachanic(s) at the dealer. My first choice is obviously going to my mechanic in Montreal, but doesn't amke sense doing that when you have a car under warranty.

Gee, dear readers, it seems I was too kind. Danielle makes her own luck. I feel sorry for the guys at the dealership.
