pre long distance drive checkover and oil overfill check over
 

Hi there,

I own a 2007 Mazda 3 neo with 107000 kms

Recently I accidentally overfilled it with oil I only drove 27 km with it then drained it to an acceptable level, the dipstick is confusing to read, so what should I check to make sure its all ok,

Also I am about to go on a long drive what should I check and serivce before I go?? And if the timing belt is out, would the ecu know and show the check engine light?? I love my car and want too look after it very well, I have only just bought it second hand with a bit of a chocky serivce history, the only problem I have is it only seems to get 520 kms from a full tank of fuel is this normal?? and the speedometer is around 9 percent off

I have noticed a squeeling sound at low speed city driving as well may be an alternator belt??

how overfull? by a quart, or by 4 quarts?
If it's just a quart over, it's probably ok, more than that you may end up with seal leaks or something from additional stress... not sure where the oil sits to know what would be the first symptom of overfilling.

Long drive - the timing may flag the check engine light, but it's unlikely - make sure it's not rattling and it's running smooth and the belt is probably ok. you should look at the owners manual but I don't think the belt needs service til 170 kilometers (~100k miles)

520km = 323 miles, which is about right - it may improve if you get the proper size tires on the car - which i'd bet is why the speedo is so far off. It should be within 2-3% at worst.

As for taking care of it - the normal service of (trans fluid, brake fluid, radiator coolant, etc...), any item that wasn't in the vehicle history and should have been serviced, do yourself just to make sure it gets done instead of sitting too long.
