Newbie - 2012 i Touring w/SkyActiv

Hi,

New to this board. Recently purchased a 2012 Mazda3 w/SkyActiv engine and auto tranny in Sky Blue Mica for the wife. I drive (daily) a 2000 Miata in Highlight Silver. We are very pleased thus far with the 3 and are hoping for lots of trouble-free miles. Getting 30+ mpg is the icing on the cake.

See you down the road.

ha. no 25 isn't bad. I would have thought the op with the skyactive would be getting better then 30.

I get 30 in the city with my Skyactiv. It's rated 28/40 so I'm not complaining about that at all. Leaving tomorrow on a 1,000+ mile trip though, and will end up putting 2,500+ miles on it in the next week and a half so I'll really get a chance to see how the mileage looks on the highway.

good luck on the trip, let me know how the mpg gos.

Hi,

I live in Toronto, ON, and I just bought a 2012 Mazda3 GS-L Sky. I'm a bit confused on the fuel economy ratings I've seen online. On the US Mazda website, the highway mileage is said to be 40 mpg, and on the Canadian Mazda website the highway mileage is given as 4.9L/100km. Those two numbers do not equal each other at all. 4.9L/100km is 48 mpg. Is there a difference in the US and Canadian models or how can they get away with giving such different fuel economy for the same car? Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Considering the 5-Door

I test-drove a manual i Touring 5 door yesterday and it is a very nice car.

I'm thinking about purchasing the automatic in Dolphin Gray by May (for my birthday...).

From browsing these forums, it seems that the mileage claims are in line with real-world driving. I do mostly city driving, but live where I work so I would only use it for weekend retreats, grocery runs and trips out of the city to visit friends.

I'm comparing the Mazda to the focus with the high-mileage option. At first, I just wanted the cheapest car on the market, but realized quickly that I wouldn't be satisfied without some margin of power and performance. I still have one eye glancing at the Mazda2.

I'd be interested in any input/suggestions to help me prune my decision tree.

The dealer gave me a price of 18,835 for the above-mentioned vehicle before taxes/tags/fees/etc. which works out to 20k and change out the door.

This seemed pretty damn good, but my savings goal and down payments aren't ready nor is my credit score...

Anyway, love to hear from you.

Update on MPG

With still less than 3,000 miles on the odometer my wife finally took a long distance drive. At highway speeds for the majority of the drive she was turning a respectable 38 mpg. With the high price of fuel these days we are very happy with our purchase.

mpg in a new mt Mazda3 4dr skyactiv

130 miles since delivery I topped it up just to check and reset the trip. 30.5 mpg mixed driving. I expect it to improve a some after breakin. Well first chance to give it a good run, off to the mountains for a little fun.

I live in Canada as well. The difference is likely in the size of ours and the US gallon. The Imperial gallon is larger and so Mazda claims 58 mpg in Canada for the Imperial Gallon and 48 mpg in the US for the US gallon. The imperial gallon (4.54609 litres (L)) is 20% larger than the United States liquid gallon (3.785411784 L).

Hope that helps,

NOTLguy
