New owner

Bought my 06 5 door Mazda 3 on Friday the 31st.
Interesting to me that the owners manual says nothing about changing the oil filter except to let a dealer do it as it requires a special tool. What exactly is this "special tool"
Also wondering if the requirement for light viscosity oil is only for MPG and not a requirement of the engine design.
Thanks for any insights. Vancer

hmm....i believe i was also told that changing my filter required special car....but ive been getting normal oil changes at firestone and whatnot with no problems. i was also not told by any of them that my car required special attention. and about the oil....im not sure on that one. but most importantly do not quote me on this because i have an 04 mazda 3. but im pretty sure you can get an oil change anywhere besides the dealer.....those skeeving people.

:wtf: Special tool?!?!? You just need one of these ==> http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...tnumber=10602B

I changed my oil in ~30-40min (since it was the first timeon this car and took a while to figure it out). I used Mobil1 5-20 fully synthetic(as 5-20 is the OEM). Any recommendations?
