Hey there, I am a Jbody.org transfer (cavaliers and sunfires) I traded my 02 sunfire GT in on May 14 for a 3S - 5 door and so far I adore it. I have been involved in modding Jbodies since 1998 when i got my first one, However I was extremely disappointed in GM when they finally produced the cobalt to replace our cars this year. I don't think I can say i have any regrets trading into a Mazda. With that said, I am looking for a new group with common interests. So is anyone/or club going to NOPI nats this year? Also how busy is this board, i signed up on 2 others but 1 made me feel less than welcome and the other is closed now... hmmmm

welcome welcome. I'm in b'ham and a former Mazda3S owner as well. Love the 3. You will to, especially after owning a cavalier!!

Also, you're from atlanta. I'm in B'ham. We have a pretty good gorup from the GA/AL area. We often have big meets and "weekenders". I'm actually organizing one as we speak. Check the "Southeast" section for the sticky thread. Good info and everyone always has a blast when we party.

p.s. We are a much smaller much more laidback forum. There are others that are more populated but it's 90% off topic ranting, fighting, cussing, **** etc.. Anything you need can be found here on this forum. Just ask.

be sure to post pics of your car in the vgarage when you can as well as a description of your car, future mods, etc.

Thank you! Yeah my Sunfire was nice, it was a 5 spd with the 2.2 DOHC "ecotec" motor but i ended up getting my 3 on a steal, it is only 3.00 more a month than my Sunfire was and i was upside down by 5 grand. The whole process couldn't have went better with Mazda, i even got a little welcome to the mazda family pack in the mail.

first things first.....

If you're even the slightest bit worried about losing your warranty don't modify your car. Mazda is notorious for not honoring warranties. The rule of thumb is "if you can't afford to fix it yourself don't mod it".

I was notorious for voiding J warranties 15 mins from the lot I bought my 02 in 03/2002 drove 15 mins to my friends house pulled the suspension out and put in both frt and rear strut bars, sway bars , coilovers and koni's, Ram air hood, carbon fiber decklid and 18's. Drove back to the dealer the next day for a check engine light and the kid who sold it was like WTF, you know you voided your warranty right? I smiled and winked, said so? and then pointed out it was all GM racing division stuff and promptly got my warranty back. SO mazdaspeed catalog - HERE I COME!

Why are you dissapointed that GM replaced the Cavi/Sunfire with the Cobalt? Having driven both vehicles, IMHO the Cobalt is at least twice as nice of a vehicle as the old J body cars were. And I have to admit, the Cobalt SS is pretty nice for a factory blown vehicle.

I'd be real curious to hear your dislikes of the Cobalt.

Welcome. I think you'll be very happy with your Mazda. I know I am!
I gotta say I was never a fan of the j-bodies at all. I haven't driven a Cobalt yet myself, but I have read they are a huge improvement. I'm curious to hear your opinion as well. Did you drive the Cobalt?

Well welcome from the Island of Jamaica...even though I'm techniaclly not there anymore....but I'll join in and add that I'm going to welcome you from Montgomery, AL instead. Well, since you're a mod-head like the rest of us, I'm expecting some mods to be done by the time we have the meet up in GA.
Again...welcome!

I'm thinking the same thing. Worst. Interior. Ever.

Having said that, welcome to the Mazda family. There are a lot fewer ricers/******** here than there are in the j-body community. Of course judging by most of the j-body folks I know, that's not saying much, but hey.

You definatly need to come to the big meet in July, and you're moe than welcome to drive down to the Pine Mountain meet this weekend (sunday June 26) for a meet we're having down there. I believe that info can be found in the shoutheast section as well.

Again, welcome and have fun with the 3, it's a great car!
