New Mazda owner need exhaust advice please
 

I just purchased a 2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback S Sport. This is the first time i have ever owned this type of vehicle, I have owned only muscle cars in the past. I want to put an exhaust system on the car that is loud and that turns heads when you hear the car coming. I liked the corksport system and then i also saw some deleted the muffler and ran a straight pipe. I was also thinking about removing the muffler and run piping to dual canister mufflers. I was thinking removing the muffler and running straight pipe would give me a loud agressive sound? I hope? I like the corksport exhaust but i am tapped out of cash and i thought there were alot of great canister mufflers such as the skunk2 or greddy but not sure if i have room. Please help me. Thanks

back pressure is EXTREMELY important in lower hp cars, so a professionally tuned exhaust system is your best bet. itll sound nicer too, not all tinny. its kinda tricky to ensure you dont take a hit on torque when you go straight pipe, so beware of that too.

Thanks any recommendations on which exhaust brand I should get? Is cork sport the best for Mazda?

the corksport system will require cutting unless you get the racepipe option. so unless you are good at welding, you will need labor services of a muffler shop.

Racing Beat makes an axleback that is a direct bolt on. it has a much more mellower tone than the corksport, very deep but not buzzy. it won't turn heads because many will think it is stock exhaust note.

a canister muffler will be a tight squeeze if you can get one in the proper dimensions. unfortunately they are quite raspy and tinny but the right one can be loud. if your main goal is loudness, remove the muffler and airbox. you won't be street legal but mission accomplished.

Thanks are you formiliar with Goodwin racing exhaust it's an axel back system? I was going to take it to a muffler shop so I gues corksport would be ok I am not getting racing pipe so I beloved the corksport system connects after the converter?

i don't think goodwin makes an exhaust specifically for the mazda3, they appear to be a dealer for Racing Beat, as the Racing Beat axleback along with other products are sold on their website. they weren't designed for a significant power gain, just for a louder, more aggressive tone. the 2010s are still pretty new, give it a year or two and your options will surely be better.

I found an ultimate racing exhaust for mazdaspeed 3 it sounded great they couldn't gaurantee it would fit the Mazda 3 but they make an axel back which they thought might fight I hope so it sounds great

ive been thinking about putting an exhaust on my car as well, but i don't want the rice sound... sounds like i don't have alot of options, i guess ill just have to resort to taking it to my exhaust guy and tell him to do what sounds best.

also what all can i do exhaust wise but still pass smog?

I am not great at all the mods and such but I am going to be putting a Magnaflow system in my car.
It gives a really nice deep throaty sound and still has plenty of volume if you are looking for something loud. You may have to gun it to get the volume but it should at least keep you street legal.
Every state has different requirements for inspections so it is hard to say whether or not it will pass right away or not.

Side question though,
I have not considered the Back pressure issue. Does anyone know what kind of back pressure the Magnaflow pipes give?
If not, I am looking for that deep throaty sound, not a rice burner sound. And tips?
