Mazdaspeed 3

there's some info about the MazdaSpeed 3 out there. Here are some links:

http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/22/pf/...zdaspeed_miata/ (about halfway down)

http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/...ex.cfm/id/38029 (read the "news" section)

There is a paper at the mazda dealership and it said that there may be a 240 hp and it should be AWD. if not it will be 200 hp. And it will be out spring of 05!!!! I searched for this and it is impossible to search for because i cant search for "3". Anyways i was happy with my finding

damn i need to pay some more of this car off so i can trade it in for an awd 240hp 3 now that would be sweet... though it better have a 5 door option....

240bhp + AWD = 140whp.......just food for thought!

so i would say hmmm....240hp......
would come to about 200whp with the drivetrain loss and all.....

depending on the power split.... lets just go with 30 front/ 70 rear then hmmmm = 140whp

but if mazda put on an AWD system liek the skylines...which can give 100% of the power to the rear wheels, then you can have the full 200whp....depends on how well designed Mazdas AWD system is.

FWIW

Mazda's had AWD's for sale as far back as 1988.

Remember the 323GTX?
Didn't think so.

Don't we need to account for the addition of power at both axles? The WRX puts 227bhp, all weel drive, and hit's 60 in under 6 seconds, so I'd say that a 240bhp AWD Mazda 3 would turn some good times, and would put better than 180 of those poinies to the road.

remember the reason for the good 0-60 times is cuz of the awd.... it allows all 4 tires to grip off the start and push you forward, instead of just 2 tires (as with fwd/rwd)

really it would be putting about 200whp to the road..... but remember the split between the axles...

we are going with a 30/70 split..... so 70% of the 200whp is the most the car will be pushed by and that would equate to 140whp.....

acceleration is alot quicker..... but the top end of it would be equal to the top end of a 140whp car....

you get what i'm saying???

so lets say this

awd mazda 3 with 240bhp
regular mazda 3 (fwd) with the exact same 240bhp (same engine and all that)....

this would be the outcome

awdm3 will get a way better launch and take off from the fwdm3...due to the awd system.. it will gain a bunch of car lengths from the start.....i'm thinking 4 - 5 carlengths..... but then after the launch is done and they are going at it..... the fwdm3 will pull harder.... and catch up, and if enough road space is available it will pass the awdm3.....

after all drivetrain loss and everything the 240bhp = 200whp
i'm gonna use it for both cars... (even tho the awd one will put less to the ground in total hp cuz of the more drivetrain loss)

awd = 200whp split between both axles....with the ratio we are using.... it will put about 140whp out at most....

the 200 whp for the fwd one will put all 200whp down....

so essentially once they are rolling and the launch is done..... it will be a race of 140whp VS. 200whp..... so you tell me who will win???

i think i am getting confusing now lol....

even with the wrx you mentioned.... if there was a fwd or rwd version of it.... the top end on those versions will pull much better than the awd version..... but will get a worse 0-60 time

the addition of power doesn't count..... well from what i know it doesn't...i'm still learning so i could be wrong..... everything i said above is what i know so far...so if anyone wants to correct me, ure more than welcome too

tsunami September-16th-2004 07:19 PM

^^sounds right to me ^^^ i would love to see the face of a guy in a wrx if i got a better launch then him.... thats would be priceless....

vielster September-16th-2004 09:37 PM

So what you're telling me is the only time that the 60hp to the front wheels will only ever be used when the back wheels break loose (drop below a 60hp to the road) And the 140hp would be powering it otherwise. Guess that's why they have all the new active torque transfer systems...hopefully they'll throw something like that on the MSP3.
