mazda3 hatchback v. speed3 hatchback

soon to enter the Mazda Universe...
first post and apologies if I've missed an obvious thread...

...deciding between a 3 hatchback and a speed hatchback...
2004 - 2006...

...wondering if I'll miss the hp if I don't get a speed...
and is the speed generally a stronger build overall ?

...located a speed with short-throw shift / upgrade downpipe / great tires /
few other extras...

...appreciate any advice or places to do more research...
