Mazda 3s 2.3L 2007 - Transmission Issues after Flush (AT Light & Check Engine)

Hi everyone,

So I recently purchased a mazda 3s 2.3L from a friend who is the first owner. She took good care of the car (oil changes). I got the car with about 105k miles on it. The one thing she never did on the car was a transmission fluid change. Dealership in Long Island told her these cars don't have a service interval for transmission fluid change. Well regardless I checked the fluid and it was dirty so I decided to do a partial change after reading online.

New filter (fram), and dropped the fluid in the pan but did not flush the lines. There were some metal particles by the magnet and dirty fluid. Figured I would do the partial fluid change and then again and again till everything was red.

Ok so its been about 1000k since the change. I noticed immediately that the car was changing a little rough between 3 and 4 after I got off the highway (driving about 30 minutes). In my mind I am like hopefully its just the fluids all mixing etc.

So this morning, I start the car and warm it up (good 10 minutes) temp outside is about 55 this morning. I then put the car into reverse and the car jerks as if I didn't have my foot on the brake. So then I get the check engine light (still have to pull the code) and the AT light kicked on.

I put the car in park and then again tried reverse and it jerked again. So I backed up and put the car in park and disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes. Figured it would reset the ecm and clear the codes. I also put the key to start with the battery off (See if that would drain any extra current)

Rehooked up the battery the AT light was off but the check engine was still on. Then drove to work.

I know I have to pull the code when I get home.

I was hoping to get some guidance on what to do next. Should I drain some more the old fluid? Should I reset the ecm once I pull the code?

Thoughts advice?
