Mazda 3 horror story finally comes to an end.
 

hey yall.
a while back i got lazy and decided to take my car to get the oil changed. normally something i would do myself, but i was feeling lazy. so i stopped at the jiffy lube not to far from my parents house, i was in and out in a bout 20 min. so i was pretty happy.
well i decided to use the rest of my day to take my girlfriend shopping... needless to say this required several long trips across town to different stores...
well, i finally made it home and parked my car in the garage and went inside for the night. the next morning i noticed a large amount of oil covering the floor of my garage... i immediately checked the dip stick to discover it was COMPLETELY dry. i pushed the car out into my drive way and wiggled my way underneath it to find that MR. Jiffy lube had found a way to CRACK the oil filter housing.... i quick call to the friendly Mazda Parts department, and 60 dollars later, i had the new housing and replaced it and filled it back up with 4 quarts of oil.... and went to jiffy lube to get my money back. after about 4 hours of arguing with them, i managed a refund.
end of story right?
NO!
well 2 days goes by, and a strange clicking noise develops in the front end, THAT NOBODY can figure out, not even the dealership.... so i figured it couldn't be anything TO bad...
WRONG!
after 3 more days the clicking gets worse and worse, so back to the dealer ship, after 5 hours of diagnosing time, i get a phone call.... "cylinder 2 and 4 have slightly bent rods"
oh shit!
BACK TO JIFFY LUBE ROBIN!
jiffy lube of course denied the possibility of oil loss to be the cause of such a problem in a car with 30k miles on it....

Thankfully the dealership stood behind me and helped me fight jiffy lube, and they ended up buying a whole new motor for my little rice rocket....
i really appreciate Woodhouse Mazda for stepping out of the "stealership" role and helping me save about 4 grand on a new engine.... they really stepped up and went above and beyond what they are required to do. they could have just said. well your screwed kid....

+1 for dealership, maybe they arent such bad guys....

oh, and i took a look at the motor myself while they had it apart... it was defiantly screwed... so they didn't just use me to sell a new motor....

and i've heard of this problem happening before (cracked filter housing)

Stupid kids, stupid mistakes
 

Not defending Jiffy Lube, BUT where ever you go there are stupid kids that make stupid mistakes. I'm really glad that the dealership did stand behind you. You gotta know that most of those Jiffy Lubes out there are Franchised owned which mean they have there own CEO/big boss that makes all those decisions. At the end of the day a special tool is supposed to be used to remove the canister housing. My wife calls me anal but whenever I go anywhere for an oil change etc. I'm watching whatever they do and I'm asking questions. If they don't like screw them, I dropped 25 on a car I'm gonna be anal.

yeah last time I went to a jiffy lube I ended up driving around all day with the oil cap off. fortunately the cap fell in the manifold pocket and I was able to put it back on (engine was a mess though) . that was two cars ago and never have been back - from then on I do nothing but buy amsoil and take it to the dealer ( I am very happy with my dealers and they go out of their way to help keep my cars in shape and are definitely not in the stealership category - they actually act like they want my business and want to keep me happy) to have it changed or this mechanic that I grew up with that has his own garage and knows what he is doing (mostly go there for the beer though because I moved across town from his shop). will never ever again go to a fast oil change place. I know others who have had very similiar stories to yours because they could not tighten a stupid bolt or an oil filter or a put on a simple screw on cap.

one other note is when I had my mustang they tried to tell me that I needed to change my k&n air filter because it looked dirty. LOL! you really can't make this stuff up any better.

We take our 3 to the dealership for everything. This way if there is any problems with it most likely they've done it.
