Mazda 3 doorlock issue
 

I've heard lots of people saying that its really easy to break into a Mazda 3 by hitting the right spot. Have anyone of you guys got a dent above the drivers side door? Just curious..

We were broken into Saturday May 12 by the tap on the drivers side door. Plus we drove to Market Mall in Calgary AB. Canada Sunday. 90% of the Mazda 3 in the parking lot had the exact same dent in their drivers doors as well. It is sad that you spend all that money on a car to learn that something as little as a door ding could unlock your car. I guess bright side is if you lock your keys in the car you don't have to call a lock smith. Just tap the drivers door and you are in.

is that with power locks or manual ones

I think,power only. Not exactly a great feature. Who would design a lock system that can be opened by just a bump on the door? Seems backwards to me.

call mazda corp. Tell them what happened and see if they'll offer you anything. Some people got free shock sensor upgrades from Mazda...cause of the same issue.

Aren't power windows, locks and keyless entry standard on all Mazda 3s?

No, not standard.. you can get a 3i without all that fancy stuff :)

I read elsewhere, that mazda motors can and will put a protective plate inside the door, to shield the lock mechanis, for free, but wont pay for any dents... so thief wont be able to open the car by kneeing them but there's always the window... so... nobody cares, just put a aftermarket alarm system, pay attention where you park and cross your fingers.

Here (Vancouver, Canada) I'd say 50% of Mazda3's have been kicked. Yesterday I was at the dealership having the free shock sensor installed; I had the plate installed previously but they didn't have shock sensors then. While I was there, 4 other Mazda3's were also in for the same service. All 4 had the dent.

What's worse, some of our members have discovered that even after their plate was installed, they were still broken into via this method. So... is the plate flawed too?

This problem has become so out of control here that we're now in discussions with a lawfirm to file a class-action lawsuit.

In my area, I myself had been broken in 3 times. I just had the plate installed and sensor. It is true that even with the plate they can still break in. It is really useless unless you get a 2way alarm.

I learn the hard way, getting basic alarm, having same problem, and now getting a 2way and planning to find some "bumper foam" to cut and fit inside the doors.

This problem is for both driver and passenger, it is upsetting because Mazda will only install on the broken door, there is no prevention steps taken at all.

$1000, is well over spent due to this. Counting 12 mazda3, 9 have dents. One has the plate installed and had his door "kicked". All the bodywork is not covered, Mazda is only adding the plate and sensor.

For a #$%@# thats wants your CDs or change, it will cost you a insurance deductible of 300-ICBC, or 600-800 w/o ICBC. Choking that is all your glasses, cellphone chargers, etc will not be covered.

This issue has well caused too much concern, that I try to park inches away from the passenger side so that nobody can open the door...no plate installed.

I look forward to seeing this post active, as the design causes break-ins, initiates them, and we have to pay for the body repairs...not fair at all.

Theres not much you can do now that it has become a target car. Even with the plate, and even if you get something that works perfectly, people are still going to try.

Not much you can do now, as people are just targeting the 3's in general - secured or not.

As much as it sucks, the only way to get people to stop denting the car is to not be driving a 3. :(

Where you live doesn't matter. Infact, the more variety of affected locations we have the better.

Do we know if any years aren't subject to break in?

It's not a matter of which year, it's a matter of people trying in the first place. The dent is worse than the possible theft of loose change or random stuff, unless you have some real pricey stuff in the car.
