light scratches
 

I have a couple of very light scratches on my drivers door...so light that you cant even feel them if you use your fingernail. But nonetheless, you can see them and want to get rid of them. Does anyone know of a good rubbing compound/clay bar/scratch remover that actually works? I want to try to take care of them at home without going to a body shop and getting them buffed out.

here's some advice... pay the 35 bucks to have a detail shop do it. if they cant fix it, you dont have to pay... and then you could be certain that whatever scratch remover you wanted to buy wouldnt work either.

story time......

someone keyed my 2 week old 3 sedan a month ago. after a lot of research, i decided on using quixx scratch remover... its supposed to be like scratch remover on steroids. the scratch didnt even hit my primer, i totally thought i could get it out. long story short... the product comes in two parts. a liquid abrasive that sands down the clear where the scratch is to even it out, and i guess the equivalent of liquid clearcoat.

when i used the first part, AS DIRECTED, i went all the way down to my paint. :( the only good thing is that the second part completely covered everything... it really made it look like the paint was fresh from the factory. i was amazed. HOWEVER, the scratch was still there.

next i went to a body shop, they said it wasnt worth their time to touch it, so they recommended their detailer. next i went there, they said 35 bucks to run the high speed on it. no luck. then they wanted to wet sand... 55 bucks... when they wet sanded the area that i hit with the quixx, the whole fucked up area came back out, and the owner thought that he did it. he then offered to have my fender painted, and of course i accepted. the end.

stay away from quixx... and any other scratch remover.

well i talked to a detail shop and they quoted me 150 because they have to buff the whole car. said the areas they buff will appear newer and darker, therefore id have to do the whole car to make it look right

i guess... my car was only a month old...

Try what I use. It's called Kit Scratch Remover. With the mildness of your scratch, it should take it right out. It usually always gets my scratches out. Just forget about using it with the deep scratches.....It's like $4 tops at advance or autozone.

Also check out meguires scratch-x... If the scratch is minor it should take it out, and it's damn near impossible to destroy your finish when working it by hand (really mild)
