Hood Scoop

Hi All,

I have just bought a Maz3 Hatch and I'm wanting to get the MPS style hood for it? I would like to get some advice? will the scoop will cause drag?? and slow the car down as it is will be a non functional scoop, even though it will still suck air in?

Thanks

Max

when it comes to objects in motion, the further you get from a smooth, flat surface, incrementally, the levels of drag will increase. the actual amount will be too small to notice, but your engine will certainly appreciate the extra airflow. plus, any additional inlets on a car allow you to take advantage of said airflow for REDIRECTION purposes, like in nascar. imagine your hoodscoop has a custom made air dam shoving air behind your block and onto your exhaust manifold....pimp.

not sure if you already know, but you can't just buy a speed hood because the fenders will need to be repladed too. but there's a carbon fiber hood with a scoop like the speed listed on ebay. i hope that helps a bit for ya

gron is correct about the drag issues

Hi Gron and Wolf, thank you for the feedback! as much appreciate it! I have sen this hood that is from Taiwan....

hence why I made the post.. just wasn't sure about the drag effect!

that ones fairly close to the one i WISH they made for the sedan....its carbon fiber and aggressive as hell, but only for the mazdaSP3 HATCH. fuck. oh, ps. non-functional scoops are gay. why not just throw some mesh in there and let it work? its easy and looks better. in my opinion, obviously.

That's so true...non functional scoop are g*y... that's what I plan to do, is to throw in some mesh and have it functional!!

Don't do it. If you plan on boost, use a front mount i/c. If you plan on having a non function hood scoop, well thats just rice.

do they have a hood with a more direct air flow design(overtop of the air filter location)? It would be ofset to one side and closer to the front. i thought i had seen hoos like that on subaru rally cars.

I'm not going to go ahead with it as cost of painting it is expensive...

Like these, Deadeye? This is for the Protege but I think they have some for the 3.
