Fog Light HIDs Mazda3
 

Hi all,

I have a 2008 4-door mazda3. The car came stock with normal halogen bulbs for both low-beam and fogs. I am planning on getting these for my low-beams:

Which one is better for my low-beams? Anyone with experience with the brands?

What should I get to match the low-beams in my fogs?

Or can I somehow connect both my low-beams and fogs together to the same conversion kit? I'm a n00b please help! Thanks

I'd say to start cheap, i'm guessing that the beam pattern will be all messed up with the new bulbs and no reflector change. Keep an eye on that - like switch just one side at first and see how it looks.

You can do some reading... basically you want to have an even pattern when looking ahead, not blind oncoming traffic etc... I've got the HID system (stock from maxda) and they have what many HID stock systems have - an adjustment for the beam height. This keeps you from blinding oncoming traffic if you have a bunch of weight in the back. The stock adjustment is kinda crappy, so I went through the trouble of rewiring the switch to give a more usable range of movement on the headlight beam (post 47722).

A standard halogen lamp has a filament, which has a particular size and direction (front to rear or right to left) how it's placed in the headlamp reflector. An HID lamp uses an arc which has a different size and beam pattern. Halogens will emit a straight line of light which is usually longer than an arc, and the arc (since it's hot) will be higher in the middle. Just the size there will hinder the performance of the reflector, loosing light overall or giving you bright and dark spots compared with the original lamp designed for the system.

post # 400535 - someone did a conversion. other people have posted the same q's as you, but not many others actually did the conversion. http://www.umnitza.com/ is one website that does some stuff too

Unfortunately I tried searching the forums for "400535" and it came up with nothing :(. Could you link me that page if possible?

Since I haven't seen that thread, I'm not sure what's on it, but how do I do this conversion so that my HID's are 'properly' installed? Thanks so much again!

If everything fits in place, nothing is loose and rattling around i'd say that's a good enough install.
From my earlier beam pattern comment... pull out one of your stock lamps and compare it to what the new HID kit pictures show.
