ECU Replacement

I am in the process of replacing my ECU but I don't know where the exact computer location is. Can someone help me out?:)

I am replacing my computer for better performance. I am thinking about getting it redone from Jet Performance Products www.jetchip.com

that's why I asked.....

Don't waste your money. This is a waste of time and money. Several people have done this (on the proteges) and showed 0hp gain and some even lost power. JET won't do anything for you.

Take that $300+ for the JET tuning and spend it on a nice catback or intake....you'd get more power from it.

I respect your comments but Jet Chip Performance has gotten some great reviews. I also want to get a cold air intake and an cat-back exhaust system the problem is I don't know what brand to get or where to have them installed seeing am not particularly good with engines. :tear:

i suggest if you want to buy the "ecu upgrade" that you dyno your vehicle before and after to show your "gains".

the ecu is under the passenger floorboard under the carpet, under a shield.

Do I have to cut the carpet to get to it or is there an easier way?

Matty Mooling January-3rd-2005 12:11 PM

should be able to just pull the carpet up

Roddimus Prime January-3rd-2005 01:08 PM

after removing some little plastic trim panels on the kickpanel you should be able to lift the carpet up and out, it's not hard.

i think you should ust upgrated the chip it allready have remove the top speed limiter for more speed and get the cold air intake and do the catback ex

Jet chips have gotten great reviews from seat of the pants dyno'ers...spending 300 bucks on a worthless chip sure does make you faster as your gonna have alot less coin in your pocket. Put them on a real dyno and youll find that often youll make less HP...ive yet to see one make anymore than maybe 1 or 2 HP more. On something that weights a couple hundred pounds, that might be a good increace, but on a car that weights thousands of pounds, a couple HP isnt going to do squat...especially for the price. They might make a difference on a high tuned car, but for MOST people who put just an exhaust and maybe a couple other little things, you just wont see the increase. Spend your money elsewhere and youll be much more impressed!!

M3, there is no such thing as "chips" for mazda proteges....never has been and I don't if there ever will be.

M3 January-5th-2005 02:41 AM

my bad i wrote chip i meant the ecu, cause i call my performance shop ask them about the ecu they said that for this car the best you could do is add a chip that will make the car ignore the top speed limiter cause the thing is that on this car and i think thatt on any japanese cars you cant remove the top speed limiter so what they do is that they put the chip and the speed limiter with be ignore but thats about it.

look basic performance to this car is cold air intake the ex catback and the top speed limiter.

now if you want to go boost then we talking about turbo kit but thats not basic anymore
