Yes, I had this problem for a YEAR! My mazda3 is a 2006. The radio display just stopped working one day. I could still play the radio, CD, etc. I went to the "steal"ership and they told me it wasn't a fuse problem and that it would cost me 600-700 to fix. I walked right out of there laughing. No way in hell was I going to pay that much. So, fast forward a year later (last night), my car died. Left the lights on. Had someone jump start my car. Low and behold, my radio display worked again?!!!!!! What the heck??? I cannot figure it out, but that was the cheapest fix ever. The fact my car died was a blessing in disguise.
