Delay in reaction when hitting the gas pedal
 

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone else may have this issue. Sometimes when I hit the gas from a red it is almost as if there is a delay in response. The car starts to move and then its sorta stops and then goes. It is '04 mazda 3. Anyone else have this problem?

Automatic or manual?

Most 3's are alittle less responsive because they have an Electronic Throttle body. An Easy and inexpensive fix for this is Grounding your throttle body.

Its an automatic. Its wierd because it doesnt do it all the time. Juest every now and then.

Depends how you hit it too. If you depress it all the way, the car will hesitate. You simply can't floor a atx 3 it seems :P

I bought my grounding wires and i'm gonna do it tomarrow, i'll let you know how it works out

just curious, will doing this have any harmful effects to the engine in the long run?? (for an automatic)

I have just the opposit problem, though I'm thinking its probably with the leanburn/emmisions control. I have a 06 manual 2.3 and when I let off the gas there is a perceptible time period before the fuel is totally cut off. In other words, I let off the gas, and while of course there is a immediate lessening of forward propulsion, towards idle there will be a time period (3-4 seconds) before you feel a total throtle cut off.

I know I probably did a poor job explaining it, but does anyone else feel this?

Small complaint, but when your in bumper to bumper and using engine compression to slow down (1st gear up to 20 mph or so...then letting off without de-clutching to slow down w/o using the breaks is how I generally have to drive for a portion of y morning commute) and there is a delay in the reduction of forward motion it is a little irritating.

I think you guys just arent used to having a drive-by-wire throttle....

The response just doesnt feel the same as a throttle cable...

More than likely it will actually lengthen the life of your tranny...."slamming" down the pedal isn't exactly taking it easy on the tranny

Had it for four years in my 02 Jetta. Very used to it. Your right, it should be MORE responsive, not less. Having a 3 second (I timed it this morning on the way into my office) delay in the time I lift completely off the accelerator until there is a complete fuel shutoff does not seem more responsive to me. Again I re-iterate my question, does anyone else feel this or am I lucky?

Just ground it, it improves it noticeably.
