Clock & Temp Display with Aftermarket HU?

Hello everyone,

Just picked up a 2007 MZ3 sedan with the S Touring package in nearly perfect condition.

I'm really digging the car and how stable it is at speed! Great brakes, too!

I've searched and can't find an exact answer and I'm not totally familiar with all the different trim levels, either.

My car is the 6-speaker, non-Bose, non-navigation package. It has the LCD strip above the factory double-din unit that displays time/stereo info/outside temp.

Question: If I put in an aftermarket, double-din HU will the time/temp still display? I know the stereo info won't, which is fine with me, it'll be on the new HU.

Thanks

Edit: Sorry Mods, if I put this in the wrong location.

The Ambient Temp Display will continue to work no matter what you do (.... well assuming you plug the LCD in of course. ;)). To get the clock/DIS section to work you need to unplug the factory HU with the ignition in the ACC position and plug the new one in without turning off the ignition. That section of the display will continue to display whatever function you have it set to when you make the switch and you'll be unable to switch between them without the factory HU.

Incidentally if you haven't done it you can activate the DIS (Driver Information System) on your HU... it's the little computer which displays miles to empty, etc. Hold down FM and CD and turn the ignition to ACC. Wait about five seconds until you see DIS ON on the LCD and the function is turned on. I know for sure this works on all 2006 HU's. It should work on all 2007 HU's. In 2008 models it only works on the 6CD HU.

Thanks Spots. I drive in and out of freezing temps and I like to know when I need to watch for ice, so having the temp displayed is nice.

Tried the DIS activation and couldn't get it to work. I'll do some more research on that one.

Was your door open? A friend of mine had an issue doing it until she closed her door, then it worked fine.
