Break-in Period
I asked someone at the service department about breaking in a new mazda 3. He said just to vary the RPMs. Does anyone else have anything more specific about engine care?

Dont run it to redline, do full throttle acceleration or starts and vary your speeds for the first 1000 miles...afterwards, do an oil and filter change and call it good!

Revolutionary Break-in Technique
Don't look now, but this dude has sparked a MAJOR debate on several motorcycle sites concerning break-in techniques:
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Keep in mind that he isn't selling ANYTHING. He's a bit long-winded, but read around on his site - watch out, he'll tear up your preconceptions of breaking in an engine! -Dax Clark |
I hope my previous owner broke it in right. I always worry about that with preowned cars but it's out of my hands now. I drive it like it's stolen most of the time, love those high revs, and I swear it it's way stronger now than when I bought it at 34k miles. Bet my top end stays cleaner anyway.

I know this isnt a mazda 3 but it applies to most cars anyways.
When we test drove a mitsubishi lancer ralliart they told us not to redline it and that just not to keep it at a constant RPM like jeffro said. |
My service manage said to drive it like I own it from Day One. Don't go nuts, but don't baby it either.
