Brakes?

Hello,

I was thinking about getting some upgrade brake pads. I am looking for something that has better stopping power, but also has lower dust.

What would be your suggestions?

I have a 2006 mazda 3 s hatchback.

The two are mostly connected. Asbestos was a wonderful braking material whose coefficient of friction was relatively linear with temperature. Unfortunately asbestos sucks for human lungs. The materials that followed, mostly metallic in nature had very non linear friction/temperature gradients. When they got hot, the got very grabby, not good. This is balanced with graphite, a form of carbon that works well as a high temperature lubricant. Higher friction materials typically require more graphite to control the friction. The graphite ends up as a soft black film on the wheels.

Sorry for the history lesson, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I've heard good things about Hawk HKS pads.... I still have the stockers though. Also if you clean your wheels really well and then wax them it will make it easier to clean up the brake dust in the future.

I was orinally looking at hawk pads...but then i was looking at ebc red stuff pads. I have heard alot of good stuff about them.

dont buy ebc....go with the hawk.

Care to give a reason why?

I was thinking about getting hawk originally ...

But I saw the EBC red stuff pads ... and I liked how they said that their pads break in faster than other pads do ... due to their special coating that they use.

Does anyone have any valid information that would make hawk better?

I just want to get the best brake pads for my money and the best streetable brake pads that I can get.

Also is it worthwhile upgrading any other portion of the braking system ... rotars ... calipers ... brake lines etc? I am thinking about at some point going to the hiboost system ... but that all depends on future financial funds he he.

like everything else in the automotive upgrade world, it all depends on how much money you can spend, you pretty much get what you pay for....

Well I know that. But there are plenty of instances where some ... even if it is more expensive ... is inferior to something that is cheaper.

Cost for brake pads doesn't matter to me. I just want what is better.
