Airbag question

Okay just got the 3 today and read the manual abot the
"Passenger airbag off" the manual states this is normal when there is no passenger or when there is a passenger the "total seated weight" is under 66 lbs. Well the wife was driving and I was passenger and this light came on, I weigh 190 pounds so my question is basically WTF

anyone have/heard of this?

Sounds like you may need the airbag update ... there was an official Mazda recall (at least here in Canada) ... back in say June 2004, or there abouts ... the story went something about a machine at the Mazda factory tightening the sensor cap too tight allowing water to leak in I beleive. I maybe all wrong on the cause; but there was definitely a reall.

Ask your Mazda dealer immediately about the airbag sensor update ... mine was affected on the passenger side ... the "airbag off" light just stayed on in mine.

I took it in to a Mazda dealer and they fixed it up right-away same day-no charge-in about 1 hour.

Mazda did send out a recall letter, you should get this problem checked ASAP.

Obviously, it could pose a serious danger in a crash if your passenger airbag is on the fritz.

did you not have your seatbelt buckeled? I've noticed that the airbag light turns off when you have weight in the seat and no seatbelt..

the light only stay on when i start the car for like 6 seconds regardless if there is a passsenger buckled/unbuckled

OH, you didn't say it went off and only came on at startup...thats common. It'll do that everytime. It's letting you know the airbag indicator light is working.

so when it is actaully "disabled" the light will stay on or flash?

Roddimus Prime August-24th-2005 12:59 PM

yeah
it'll stay on.

yeah i know i am a complete and utter retard and wish for anyone who has read this to erase it from your memory as it is a complete waste of space. I am not use to actually having a car with lights that are useful or eve work for that matter

Why aren't the cars in the US being recalled?
