air conditioning quits after 200 miles??

The air on my 2008 Mazda 3 just quits after about 200 miles of driving. If I don't drive that far it works just finek--Any ideas.

There is a TSB on a problem with AC in humid climates. The core freezes up and the air stops blowing, see the dealer.

Also try turning the fan speed up. If it is the evaporator freezing more air should help mitigate the problem.

I did contact the dealer and they are ordering a part which they say will fix the problem. I guess I find this kind of strange since I had a 2005 Mazda 3 for two years and never had the same problem even though I live in the same place.

The only issue I had with the 05 was the idler pulley for the fan belt exploded while I was on the road and that had to be replaced.

I guess if these are known issues why doesn't Mazda contact owners to have them checked out instead of waiting until they go out like the pulley and then you are stranded on the road with a problem only a dealer can fix??

It's all about costs. Plus the fact that only a minimal amount of people will have the problem.

I understand the cost issue, but especially with the pulley those with the issue end up stranded with no way to fix the problem without getting the vehicle to a dealer.

The air conditioning was just an inconvenience although I still don't see why my 05 never had the problem but the 08 suddenly does.

Are you sure they are the identical systems?

TomE September-14th-2008 09:02 AM

I would have expected so since the vehicles are identical other than color, but then possibly Mazda is not familiar with the idea of "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It".

I have exactly the same problem. 200 miles or so and the ac decreases in cooling and fan strength. Is this something the mazda techs should be familiar with? What part did they suggest for you? Thanks.

TomE September-24th-2008 07:57 AM

I have not idea about what part they are going to put in since they are still waiting for it to come from Mazda and it has been about a month.
