2010 Mazda 3 Blower Motor Resistor Replacement
 
Hi Guys/Gals,

Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but so far I have only found bits and pieces on this (or details for previous models of the 3). As the thread title says, I am hoping someone can offer some insight into replacing the blower motor resistor in a 2010 Mazda 3 (or point me to some sources describing this).

Basically my Mazda 3 recently stopped having any fan power, except when the fan speed is set to full, then it appears to operate normally (and other threads have mentioned this sounds like a classic blower motor resistor problem). I've seen other threads describing the process for older models like the 2008, and it looked like a huge PITA to do, and required taking apart the whole dash. I'm really hoping its easier on the 2010 model and someone can offer me some good new :).

I know it is almost 2 years to the date since you posted this, but I am hoping you can help. I just bouhgt a 2010 Mazda 3 and have the same problem. The fan only works on position 4 (highest speed). Whats even more bizarre is that the AC will not come on when the fan is blowing. The AC only comes on (the light comes on and I can hear the compressor kick in) when the fan switch is in the other 3 positions and NOT blowing! How did you make out with your problem? I see in others threads something about a blower motor resistor?

It was indeed the blower motor resistor that was the problem for me. It was actually pretty quick and easy to replace on the 2010 Mazda 3, accessed from the passenger side dash. Once I replaced it all positions of the fan work correctly again. If you have a multimeter you can actually measure for open circuit or short circuits between the different pins of the blower motor resistor to confirm that is your problem. I didn't notice any issues with the AC in my case but I may just not have noticed due to the time of year...

I ordered the resistor /control module from Rock Auto and found a youtube video on how to replace it. Doesn't look too hard, just a panel and the glove compartment and then you have access. Hope this does the trick!

Yes the problem was solved a few months ago. Ordered the part from Rock Auto. It's not really a resistor. There is a Youtube video on replacing the " blower motor control unit" think that's what it is called. Look up the video, it is easy to change once you see the video. Also ordered a new cabin filter since it is in the same location and you must remove Blower control unit to get to the cabin filter.

I have 2012 mazda 3 GX with a same problem, AC light doesn't come on, fan only works on 4th level, AC compressor doesn't kick in the beginning. Just bought this car, with bunch of problems.
