2007 M3 GS Headlight Inquiry
 

I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 M3 GS, Manual Tranny. I love the car, its such an amazing upgrade from the 2000 Protege I was driving.

I was in the store today, looked up what kind of lightbulb the headlight takes and its telling me a 9005 kit. So I buy a pair of Sylvannia Pure whites. And now heres where my Inquiry comes.

The headlight is broken down like this:

[Signal L.] [Projector HL] [Reflector L]

The projector light is my actual Headlight and Highbeam, where as the Reflector is just my daytime running lights. The reflector daytimes take the 9005 kit though...why? Why replace those? Now I have no idea what the projector light takes...it has 2 pins and is straight out, maybe a 9004? Any ideas anyone?

As well the holding clip on the Projector seems a bit stiff, and doesn't want to clip back into the inside. Its the same concept as my protege, but its giving me more guff.

2 flat pins would be an h4 bulb

The high beam (with the reflector) is a 9005 bulb, the low beam (with the projector) is a H7, and the fog is a H11.

Oh I see, now comes the fun part of actually replacing the lights, do I need to remove the entire headlight housing? I'm not sure about previous models, but on the passenger side there is barely enough finger room if you have a bit bigger meathooks like me, and on the drivers side its completely sealed off.

You don't have to remove the lights (which btw entails removing the bumper) as long as you can snake a hand in to the light. If you can't then you may need to remove everything.
