2006 mazda 3 help-p0126 code

I was going to change the temp. sensor and for some reason starting removing(not sure what its called above the sensor, see picture) then realized I could use a deep socket. well I removed the flange bottome bolt and coolant drained down the engine block, I lost one flange bolt somewhere down below. now the powering steering light is on, the oil pressure light is on, and service light come on. also the gauge needles swept all across.

I disconnected the battery after and will wait until sunday to diagnose futher

Any input as to what went wrong would be greatly appreciated.

ps. a/c and heat working fine and temp. gauge under the half way mark from what I've noticed. also the CEL turned off when I changed the oil at dealer, but went on again after 100 miles.

p0126 Relates to the signal from the CTS( Coolant Temperature sensor)
-The signal received from the CTS is implausible.

Assuming that the wiring to the sensor is ok, and undamaged, I would take the following action.

Check the coolant level of the vehicle, The CTS needs to be in coolant to get an accurate reading, Some vehicles can develop air locks in the cooling system and this can cause pockets of air around sensors, resulting in inaccurate CTS readings,

I would, with the vehicle cold, on a slight incline, heater on full. Remove the radiator / resiviour cap, run the engine for 10 minutes keeping the coolant level maintained. This should allow any trapped air to escape.

It may also pay to check the component fitted is the correct part. -Check the resistance of the sensor against manufactures specifications (or if the old one is functional but was only leaking / Against it)
