2.3 vs 2.0
 

So now i have magnaflow catback, K&N CAI, And ObX headers. Do you think all of these installed puts me up to the performance level of a 2.3 model? I figured all of them combined would be a pretty big gain..

i used to have a Ford Focus with the 2.0, modified to just about the same spec, and when I raced a 2.3 Focus that had the same mods, I got spanked. You might be able to beat some stock AT 2.3's, but any modded 2.3 w/a MT will probably take you. Tranny and suspension mods should give you a bit more of an edge.

did u install all of it yourself or go to a garage?

i think with thos mods you could beat a 2.3 stock with a manual tranny there is only like what 8 hp difference...and even less difference in torque....i think the torqure gain would be the biggest advantage over the 2.3 but i think you have mached or beat the performance level of a 2.3

1/4 Mile ET: 15.700
1/4 Mile MPH: 88.650mph
and a 2.3 w/ intake, header, exhaust, springs, pully,short shifter runs
1/4 Mile ET: 14.967
1/4 Mile MPH: 93.450

Garbage comparison....

A Ford Focus 2.0L is not even close to the same engine as the Mazda 3 2.0L

To answer the original question...yes, you are close if the 2.3L is stock...there's only about a 10hp difference

and I would love to see a time slip on a Mazda 3 2.3L with those mods running in the 14's, even a 14.97

I'm throwing the brown flag on that one...

What about the torque difference? the stock 2.3 has 15 more foot lbs of torque which is somewhat significant with the numbers we're talking about, which would mean it'd be a bit faster accelerating, hp only makes a difference in the top end speed on the high way, its the torque that you use on the on ramp to get up to that speed and throw you into the back of your chair . . .

I'd just like to see the numbers side to side, the times of a stock 2.0 through a 1/4 and a stock 2.3, to see if the 15 ft lbs extra rating makes a difference . . .

o, and with the mods you've added, I would think you've passed the performance marker of a stock 2.3

I looked all over dragtimes...no slips, but I DID find a Mazda 3 2.3L 5 speed running 16.33's...that sounds about right...

And if anyone thinks an intake, header, and exhaust on an NA 4cyl will pull 1.4 seconds off your quarter mile time, your smoking crack...

as a point of reference, the time I found on there for a MazdaSPEED 3 was a 14.28, again that sounds right....

bottom line, don't go posting some crack smokers time on here that you found on some random website as the norm for what your car will run...

post what YOU ran, and back it up with a time slip....

To the contrary, the only difference between the Ford 2.0 and the Mazda 2.0 is the Mazda has a larger bore, while the Ford has a longer stroke. They both have the same torque numbers throughout the RPM band. Also, The 2.3 Ford has a HP of 151@5750 compared to Mazda's 156@6500, but the Focus produces 154lb/ft to the Mazda 150lb/ft. Both engines are constructed with the same materials, they simply have different fuel system types.

Ford Focus 2.0L 136 hp@6000 rpm, 136 lb-ft torque@4250 rpm

Mazda 3 2.0L 148hp@6500rpm, 135 lb-ft torque@4500 rpm

I was referring to comparing the Ford & Mazda 2.0L NOT the 2.3L...the Ford and Mazda 2.3L's are practically identical..

they are NOT a good comparison..the MZR is a better motor than the Ford and will yield higher gains with the same modifications...12hp difference is HUGE when dealing with a small car...don't think so ??? ask any guy in a stock focus if they have ever beat a Mazda 3 in a race...
