1st oil change?
 

I was wondering and I know prob a lot of people asked this question but what is a good time to do your very 1st oil change. My MS3 has about 1200 miles now.

I do my first at 1000 and swap in Royal Purple 5-20 or 5-30 (whatever it calls for) and then don't change it again for another 3-5k....

The manual says the first oil change should be at 5k miles, FYI.

When I bought my 3GT this May the local dealer had a complimentary "first service appointment" scheduled for three months after delivery. So, the first oil change occured at 2200 miles. I have had a similar experience with my two previous Civics (89 and 02), where the local dealers scheduled the "first service" (oil change) at 1000 miles.

Having said that I am not sure that this dealer service is anything but their way of making sure that all is well with the car and the customer. I am not at all sure that the notion of doing the first oil change after 1000 miles -to remove the metal shavings from the engine- has a basis in reality, though I must admit it does make me feel better. If you listen to the Car Talk guys, changing the oil at anything less than 5000 mile intervals is not needed, unless you drive like those two do, around Boston...

Thanks alot of the info guys. I'll try to get it done as soon as I get time or at 2k then wait till like 5k for the next. I don't know if its just me but I feel much better when I do it early :mdrmed:

That means nothing. It also says you should always take your vehicle back to the dealer for all service because they use "genuine OE parts"....the same parts that just broke will begoing back into your ride.

i'm also about to do an oil change on my Mazda3 '06 for the first time... I've always done it on T-100 Truck before, but after reading up on the manual, the mazda3 has a different oil draining valve... is there a different way these things needs to be done? or just the same? 1) find the valve, 2) drain it, 3) take out the filter, 4) close the valve, 5) replace filter, then put new oil... anything diff i should do? i saw that the filters on these things are different...
