squealing brakes?
Whaddup all? I've been having issues with the brakes squealing terribly on my 2005 3S (w/abs if that makes a difference). Theres only like 7K miles on it and I dont ride the brakes. It seems to be doing it more and more, I'm gonna have it checked out, has anyone else had this problem? (Its a bit embarrassing pulling up to a red light and having your car sound like a POS when you put the brakes on....) :dunno:

Mine has only 3000 miles and it squeals too. Dont know why though..the dealer here says its normal for when its new but yours shouldnt be at 7000...Hope it goes away!

Mine has 5k miles and it squeals too, especially in the morning. The reason is because a layer of rust forms on the discs after the car is parked for a period of time. Does the squealing go away after you drive it? Mine does because the layer of rust gets polished off after the first few applications of the breaks.
And it is doing it more and more because of the colder weather (damp air) causing more rust to form on the discs. In the past with my old car I bought a paste called "Disc Quiet" and applied it the the back of the break pads and that would eliminate break squeal. Not sure if this would work with our 3's. Has anyone tried this or any other fixes for the break squeal? I'm not sure if this will go away as the rust film will always form on the discs when the weather is damp or will it? Has anyone had the break squeal at the beginning (when new) and goes away after more mileage is put on it. |
it's mostly the rear brakes. There is a problem with the type of pads mazda uses on its newer cars. I had this problem on my 3S and RX8. Changing the pads out fixed it instantly. I swtiched to Hawk pads but they are very expensive. Maybe EBC Green stuff would be cheaper and quieter.

It’s just a small layer of rust on the rotors from sitting overnight, it should go away after your first few stops. If it does not may want to have it looked at, the Pads are very strong on our cars and the harder material tends to squeak, small price to pay for the braking ability of this car though. ;peace;

I have the same problem with my '05 s and its just getting worse. might have to try new/different pads, but don't want to lose that awesome braking.
|
By brother is having the same problem on his '05 and the dealer said that Mazda is looking into a recall or something cause all the '05's they've sold are coming in with this.

There are several TSB's to address this issue. Take it to a dealer.
I'll post the TSB in the Service Information forum. |
im having the same problem in my 2004 3s with 33,000+ miles on it. but in the end its just a noise, its not like the breaks arent work great...its just annoying.
|
I have not had this problem yet, i drive an 06 s and sometimes although i dont mean to but i ride the brakes kind of hard while in tiptronic mode, id take it to the dealership if its still under warrenty and if its not get some high-performence Brembo brakes.

In general, all new cars need to break in the brake pads.
Usually when I put new pads, I stop really slow for couple of days. After that, I make few hard stops to break them in. Thats how I do it and I'm sure others do it slightly different. If the noise continues, get the dealers to check them. |

Ahhh! These brakes are killing me!
Okay...I posted a comment a while ago (about 3k miles) and my breaks have gotten even worse. I took in my 05 M3S and they said they are perfectly clean and that squealing is normal. Sorry...but it happens everyday, all the time, and it's really loud. So imberassing because it's a good car that sounds like shit!
Anybody else feel the same having the same problem? I dont know what else to do. Geeezz :pat: |
I have the same ear-splitting problem on my '05 M3 5dr. Have had the squealing brakes issue since new. It's REALLY embarrassing first thing in the morning when you start out. I've heard about the TSB, but the dealer is less than helpful. My car now has 20K miles on it and they're still making noise. When I had my 97 Honda Civic I made it all the way to 120K miles before I needed a brake job (yes, I have a 5spd, and no, 120K is not a misprint...lol). I don't think that I can listen to these for another 100K miles! I still love this car, though.....can't beat it for the $$$.

Ok, here's the deal with that. You should be able to get it fixed under warranty. There is an updated pad out now for that issue. They changed the shape of the contact material thus eliminating the problem. It now has an angle to it on the edge of the pad. Mazda dealerships should have the updated pads in stock. I know this for a fact because I am a Mazda tech. Hope that helps some..
